Who Do You Think Is The Best Freshman FB Player You've Seen At UT?

As a huge Stanley Morgan fan I try to squeeze him into all the "best of" conversations. So, as a true freshman in 1973 (which by the way was the first year freshman eligibility was restored), he gained almost 23 yards for every time he touched the ball from scrimmage. It was the only year he got to play WR full time until he joined the Patriots.

Jamal Lewis and it ain't even close....:salute:

Chuck Webb was GREAT, Eric Berry is Eric Berry, but for
IMPACT on the team--Jamal Lewis wins hands down.

I was at the UGA game back in 1997 we he ran all over, around, and through the puppies! :salute:

let's see the best freshman fullback of all time. Either Amsler or Bartholomew. Not sure, pretty close. Also hard to compare FB stats

I've never understood the hate on Clausen. All the guy ever did was come out and help win football games. He was unbelievably calm under pressure. For true freshmen I would have to add him to the list with Lewis and Berry.

Me either.

People that hate on Casey probably didn't see, and certainly was not at, the 5 ot game in tuscaloosa. I've been to many TN/al games but that one was different. After the game both fan bases didnt even bust on each other. We were all just awed and exausted from watching one of the greatest games in one of footballs greatest rivalries.

Maybe a sore subject but Janzen Jackson was absolutely bustin heads his FR year.

I remember him laying the wood, but I don't recall his overall play.

Jason Allen was a freshman DB who I recall doing some really athletic things and being pretty steady.

My opinion its easily Chuck Webb. Not to take anything away from Jamal but Chuck was big, fast, powerful AND constantly broke defenders ankles that were tryin to get a hand on him! His injury has to be one of the biggest disappointments in a single UT season. I was a kid and was completely devasted! I still am! lol

Berry had 222 yards on 5 int returns. Webb had 1200 yards on 200 carries behind Antone Davis and Charles McRae

Berry was preseason all american as a sophomore, Webb was not (Antone Davis was that season though). Webb has become a legend on these forums. I watched em both play and Berry was the better freshman football player at UT. Webb was good and all but Berry was incredible.

Reggie Cobb had 20 count'em 20 TD's his Fr. year. This board would melt these days if we had a newcomer do that.

Berry and Lewis are the best freshman I've seen. And I believe Pickens was a JC so not sure if that is the same thing.

JC?....do you mean junior college?...google...or conversations with Vol fans..is your friend

I know Webb was the total package, but Lewis was as well he was an animal his freshman year before his first injury, I don't think I could choose between the two. Lewis went on to run for 2,000 yards after blowing both knees out in the NFL, imagine if HE hadn't hurt either knee.

Berry was exceptional as well.

As others have said, there should be a distinction between true freshmen and redshirt freshmen. Redshirt freshmen had an entire year to get acclimated to the college life and game and bulk up for a year. A true freshman doesn't have that luxury.

With that said, I'll go with Jamal Lewis and Eric Berry. Both were ready to play from day 1. If I had to make a choice between those two then I'd go with Jamal. If people remember though, Jamal didn't burst onto the scene until after the Fla game. He wasn't a factor at all. Still can't believe the coaches didn't let him be a factor for that game. They were too worried about his blocking and being able to protect Manning.

Mark Levine was such a stellar blocker..who needed rushing production...a flaw along with TE utilization in the Cutcliffe system:no:

Just walking on campus as a Frosh and being a game-changer it's Eric Berry. Had Lewis been able to figure out the "blocking schemes" in '97 he would be rated higer. Reggie Cobb was also very good in '87.
