How about Cookie Monster? There's a name everybody knows. Would he make a good coach? Give me break.

Chip kelly is going to fall flat on his face no matter where he goes. He needs to take a year off.

Mclwain at Florida has a top ten team in year 1. Georgia with Richt is going to always be a regular top 20ish team. Butch pulls in talent to make UT top 20ish from here on so long as his coaching doesn't get in the way. Fuente has proven he's a better coach than all of these guys so far with what he's done at Memphis, and with a great recruiting area like the Carolinas, on top of a Memphis connection, he'll do extremely well at a school like USCe.

I'm not going to discredit what Mxlwain has done but he inherited a top 5 defense and had talent galore on offense. Miuschamp was a bafoon at UF and thought mean faces plus screaming and yelling was a way to get through to players, working well for him at auburn too. I'm holding off on the hire at Florida until I see what he can do with the talent HE has to recruit

The guy that went 46-7 and won three Pac12 titles in four years is going to fall flat on his face?

He's been figured out and he has a reputation now that the players are not going to want to play for. He needs to take some time off and ride it out before coming back in. yeah he will do a face plant.

The only reason USC isn't on that list is that they are a private institution that chooses not to release information on coaching salaries.

All Non-Profits are required to file IRS Form 990..."Compensation of Officers, Directors, Trustees, Key Employees, Highest Compensated Employees and Independent Contractors". They are required to report base salaries only, not including bonuses or incentives.

A quick and easy web search found this from USCs 174 page Form 990 from 2012:

Former President Steven B Sample $1,463,779
Current President/Trustee Chrysostomos Nikias $1,188,986
Monte Lane Kiffin $3,054,154
Patrick C Haden. $2,391,416
Monte George Kiffin $1,883,343
Kevin O'Neil (Basketball) $1,750,170

Does anyone really believe that Notre Dame pays their coach less than $2m (#61) as reported by USA Today?

His system won't work long-term in the NFL any more than Urban Meyer's would. Both systems will be just fine at the college level.

He's been a d*ck since Day 1. That's not a new thing. He'd still dominate at this level like he did before.

(And, if his entire system had been "figured out," a year off wouldn't make a difference at all.)

So, you're saying USC spent nearly $5 million on the Kiffins after Carroll was the highest-paid coach in the country. Weren't you trying to say they don't spend big?

No, they didn't spend $4.2m for Lane. After state and federal income tax and left coast cost of living what did the Kiffins actually take home. What did USC get for their money out of the Kiffins.

They spent 4.9 million for their HC and DC, which is almost certainly more than Baylor does. And that was for a relatively unproven coach. When USC or Texas don't hire Briles, it's because they don't want him, not because they can't afford him.

You really think they're going too? There's a reason Charlie Strong is at Texas and not Art Briles. $$$

It wouldn't have anything to do with Briles refusal to interview/meet? His arrogance cost him the Texas job. He says look at my resume; the resume that includes Lamar, Sam H. St as wins and 2 bowl losses vs any semblance of legit teams.

If I'm the Trojans, I reach out to Art Briles. With the talent that school can pull and his offensive mind, it would be even scarier than Baylor. As far as the Cocks, they have to try Dantonio from MSU

I don't really have an opinion on the Trojans. But I agree with you on the Cocks. I would say that Mark Dantonio is more than likely number one on the list. But I think it's going to be hard to pull him away from Michigan St. The only advantage I would give SC in this situation, is it being Dantonio's School where he played his college ball. In my opinion I think that Michigan St is the better program, plus he's really got a good thing going up in East Lansing.

Briles would be like a fish out of water in LA. I see him and Gary Patterson retiring from the schools they are at. Baylor and TCU are schools that build statues in your honor and name stadiums after you...USC is where you go to get fired.

I agree, not a good cultural fit at all. Lots of crazy names thrown out there that make zero sense...for USC or the coach in question.

So when did $3.9m (Patterson) and $4.2m (Briles) per year plus job security become a delusional idea?

Salary wise, USC doesn't even rank in the top twenty. I'm not sure USC would want to get into a bidding war with Texas oil men.

Edit: Patterson's gross anual income is woefully understated as it doesn't include the outside investments gifted to him by Ft Worth oil men.

Let's just say, perks that go with the USC job are also attractive. USC ranks 8th in the world for producing billionaires, several of those billionaires have made fortunes is real estate, and one big FB booster owns the largest Mercedes Benz dealership in the country.

Very grateful alums, that will do anything to make the HC, and his staff, very comfortable.
