I think our entire WR corps is going end up outproducing the last year's bunch. Now the key will be QB play and while I'm a Worley advocate, it might be either Peterman or Dobbs as the QB spark plug. Frankly, I got a sneaking suspicion it won't matter which QB is at the helm. He will have a target rich WR corps that produces.
The RB situation, for me is in flux now. I think CJG had the backs hitting the holes with aggression and it was paying off. The new RB coach, I have no idea if he advocate this style or something else. I'd love to see Fugate back at FB and used as a battering ram in short yardage situations.
On defense, my take is the front four will be adequate but the secondary may again be the weak link. However, if the front four can generate consistent pressure on the QB, we should be OK. McCullers needs to be shifted around to create mismatches and/or force opponents to run away from him to places where our LBs can ambush ball carriers.
Once again, look for the WR corps to make it look like Zach, Hunter, and Cordarelle never left. EXCEPT for the crazy evasive maneuvers only Patterson can do.
Jordan Williams is my emergence of the year. He has a few nice.moves, and if he can put it all together. He'll be fantastic
Hunter: 73 1083 14.84 9 6.1 90.3
Patterson: 46 778 16.9 58 5
Patterson (rushing): 25 308 12.3 67 3
Patterson: Returns/passing (he was two yards short of a passing TD remember) 772 yards total
Rogers: 32 491 15.3 72 7
Rivera (for fun): 36 562 62 5 3.0 15.6
So let's see. 1083+778+491+562 receiving yards to take care of
2352 yards from just our receivers receiving (2914 counting Rivera)
From Patterson running and returning its 1080 (what hunter did receiving basically), for a total of 3994. (all stats from either ESPN or the UT website so could be off).
So, we are looking at just under 4k yards that our new core has to get to be like they never left.
We have some good receivers, but outside of North in a year or two, I don't think we have any 1000 yard receivers right now. I sure hope I'm wrong though.
I believe that switching back to the 4-3 will help Mo Couch. He played well in the last half of his first year then not as well with the new scheme. With the attention that will have to be paid to Mccullers, I look for Couch to have a strong season beside him.
This is my pick as well. Jordan has game, but I think he's more suited to play with his hand in the dirt. Watch Saulsberry too. He did well when he got his chance late last season, but got injured. If healthy the two boys from Gainsville are gonna prove to be really good players IMO.
hopefully a TEAM-
who emerges this year......it would be nice to say:
The UT of old
The UT most of us were accustomed to
The UT who has more W's than L's
The UT who causes more positive emotion than suicidal tendencies
The UT who makes you hold your head up after a game no matter the outcome instead of wanting to bury your head in the sand
The University of Tennessee who by the end of the season we all can stand proudly by in consensus instead of going at each others throats all off season
One can hope and wish for the return of this day
