Who here has played/play the greatest game on Earth?

That would be the same. Blue Devils.

I played 78 thru 82, I didn't mention it earlier because I didn't think it made my opinion more valid. That was a LOOOOONG time ago!

Longer for me than you, but those were the glory days. I'll never forget beating Dickson 8-6 at their place and the Charlotte stands pouring out onto the field. Grown men crying like babies and grown women kissing us all over our faces. I'll never forget beating Ashland City at their place in what would have been their 20th win in a row and knocking them out of going to the super bowl.

That's what it's really all about, memories.

I agree. Back in my day, our biggest rival was Springfield "Yellowjackets"

Played my whole life
2 YR starter in The Great State of Texas
Believe me Friday Night Lights is true!
DB and RB

Why do i like the vols if i live in Texas? My dad grew up in Dyer County, TN and his whole family still lives there. I was born a VOL. Still go to a game a year. I remember when I was little bitty going to The Memphis vs UT game in Memphis were we wore the all orange uni's and we lost. They tore down the goal posts and I cried all night LOL!
My favorites though were the Tennessee vs Florida game in 2002...and the Ole miss game when peyton was there!

Also 2 YR 2nd base / short stop for the baseball team
had a few offers from small schools but decided not to continue

Yeah, he's talking about the same White House. Greenbrier and White House are still big rivals. There is another White House team now,but they are a smaller 2A school.

Forrest is a school located in Chapel Hill,Tn.

Edit: Behr already answered while I was replying.

Well my memory must be faulty then because I thought it was White House we beat and Chapel Hill went to the state. It must have been the opposite. Must have been White House that went to the state and we beat Chapel Hill in the bowl game.

Played from the time I could walk. All county middle school LB and guard. Started all 4 yrs in HS and played evry down---off,def, and all special teams. Broke my back my senior year hitting with my head down(t-3). Still had 9 offers. Chose Carson Newman, but I would have had to sign a waiver. I met with an NFL physician who assessed that I was a GREAT risk for paralization and gave the game up.

HoundDog,

None the less you still won your bowl game, and shut out a good Forrest team. Sadly, bowl games a (as far as I know) are a thing of the past. You and I played in the day where only the district winner went to state, now it seems everybody and their mother gets in the playoffs.

Although I did play in the state playoffs, one of the best times I ever had was playing in the Highlander Bowl in Gatlinburg.

No football team at my school, but played every other sport. In my late 20's we use to play football against Jerry Lawlers rasslin team behind Treadwell school. No pads!, no helmet!! Now thats football.

I was a baseball guy. Played since I was 5 all through HS. Started all 4 years of high school, highest batting average, fewest errors. Of course that's not football. Our team won 1 game the whole 4 years, but thought they were really good, so I was in the band.
I'm a superstar at NCAA FB on PS2, though. :salute::good!::dance2:

i love when the 'you never played' card gets pulled.

i've never run for office...better not have an opinion on politics.
i've never been an ordained minister...better not have an opinion on religion.

This sounds like a quote from someone who never played... And as far as having an opinion on things you've never done... Well yeah, you can have an opinion but you probably don't know what you're talking about. Or atleast not as much as someone who has done it before. I think that is the point of this thread.

I started playing football at age 10 in Gwinett County, GA and didn't miss a year all the way through high school (Norcross 5A). I played Center, long snapper and defensive end (played both sides of the ball) my entire varisty career. I played varsity as a freshman.

I opted to join the Army and deployed to Kuwait in Gulf 1, instead of playing in college. I have no regrets.

How many have just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express?

I get the argument that one need to have played to understand certain things about individual aspects of the game, but it's silly to pretend that knowing sound strategy and tactics is about playing.

Listening to the incoherent interviews and stories from many current and past iconic professional and collegiate athletes should tell everyone that even average intelligence is the exception in that sample size.

Man, I'm in! An ordained minister with a ton of opinions + a Book full of absolutes

I played football since I was in 3rd grade. I played defense end my freshman and sophomore years and offensive tackle my junior and senior years when I was bigger. I was about 6'2 240 my senior year. I still played D-end in some passing situations because I was pretty quick which I enjoyed. We ran a west coast offense completely out of the shotgun and we threw it about 60% of the time, and we made playoffs all 4 years of high school. Both my junior and senior seasons were cut short though. I blew out my knee my junior year and had a freak nerve injury when I hurt my hip flexor my senior season and lost feeling in one of my legs for a month but it was late in the year both times so I still got alot of playing in. I considered trying to play in college and had a few small colleges look at me as a DE/MLB but with being seriously hurt twice and since I got into UT I decided to not play.

As for the you have to play the game to know it debate. You don't have to have played a sport to know a lot about it but it sure helps. Just playing a few years of football especially if you've played in an detailed college offense like my school ran will certainly help you understand truly how the game works and the X's and O's. There are those who truly understand the game and how it works that haven't played but that is a very small number of people and very very few could truly be called experts. I respect a guy like Hubbs on his knowledge of information and he has good sources but I don't put alot of stock behind his X's and O's comments because alot of the time he is plain wrong.

I was the kicker/punter in middle school. Once I got to the high school, I had to focus just on soccer because I had a much better chance at getting a scholarship.
I did, however, hook up with the local radio station and I got to help broadcast high school football games. I didn't play that much, but I did call games for three years on the radio.
I also have many years under my belt as a superb armchair QB.
