Ainge says that we are going after someone, and it's "in the negotiating phase" already. He says it isn't a coaching search right now, we are zeroed in on one guy already.
As we all know he is insisting that Gruden is off the table. He also seems to be talking about a guy who is a current head coach. He says that the guy will absolutely unite the fan base, which makes me think it's not Cutcliffe. He pointed out Al Golden's losing record this morning and didn't seem impressed with him, so I think that takes him off the list.
Is he suggesting we are close to a deal with Patterson, Petersen, Gundy, or Fisher?
Has anyone met him at a remote to get the scoop?
This whole thing is driving me crazy.

What's the huge attraction people have to Gundy? (really don't know much about him) Would he be a good hire?

Ainge gets his information from Larry....who will perhaps also post it here....?

Ainge also said Cheek is involved in the process. He's the only one saying this. Everyone else says Cheek isn't going to inject himself into the situation.

I don't see any guy out there that will unite the fanbase other than Gruden. Maybe Fisher, but that's beyond crazy talk. Patterson might, but then Jeff in Rockwood probably isn't going to know who that is.

In other words...

Ainge has no clue

Dooley said yesterday on 1045 that the decision on his future is being made by the AD and the Chancellor.. So I doubt the Chancellor would be involved in 1 decision and not the other...

If he's involved in Dooley's firing, common sense would tell us that he'd be instrumental in the new hire as well... (i know I would if I were in his shoes)

If we hire Gruden, this is going to be really embarrassing for Ainge. He's going to get blasted like Basilio has in the past. TB is mature enough to deal with it, though.

larry put out david shaw's name a while back, and it has stayed kind of lost in the noise.

Not that my opinion matters but I think I would be okay with Shaw. It's hard to know how good he is though with only being a couple of years removed from Harbaugh and Luck. Of course, I don't know a lot about his career and don't keep up with the PAC-whatever number they are now.

Jimbo fisher would be my thoughts. Friend of mine works in the office of a local sports agency. He said that fisher is who they are hearing but its only rumors coming from atheletes with ties to the atheletic dept

Isn't Larry the same guy that has preached "Kirby Smart will be the next coach" for months?

I don't usually listen to Ainge but I turned it on this morning. It seemed He kept referring to his candidate in the plural. "they" "them" "these guys" etc.

Hope you are being sarcastic about Basilio and maturity...sent him an email last week concerning his complete flip-flop of Dooley gone, Dooley may not be gone. He sent back two emails in record response time and went off the rails about anyone questioning him..

Shaw would be a good hire. Doesn't matter now. No matter the college coach this fanbase is going to be pissed if his name isn't Jon Gruden.
