Does everyone realize that the problems we face in the Middle East grew up during the Ford and Carter years?

Only time will tell, but that would certainly be the top two on most current lists. It is amazing the free pass that Johnson gets.
I think Johnson was unduly saddled with the baggage in Southwest Asia that both IKE and JFK left behind.

Are you kidding UT? You of all people know how history is taught. Not to mention the fact that our wartime policies (including fighting with both hands tied behind our back) were shaped in large part by Johnson's mishandling of Vietnam. There is a reason the World now thinks we are a paper tiger.

I know it's not a popular position, but I think history will be very kind to "W". Unforunately we will have to endure a good deal of pain over the next 20 - 30 years for that to happen.

Between Korea, Vietnam, ODS, and Somalia, there are good reasons that the world looks upon us as paper tigers.

The only "good" that could result from a loss in OIF is that it might be the final blow to our bass ackward deployment rotation system.

I wouldn't put any money on that if I were you!

I think it is kinda funny that people bash Bush's foreign policy when most of the presidents follow Wilsonian principles.

forgive me if I present a gloomy view of your view, but I see nothing, and I mean NOTHING, to indicate that history will be kind to George W. Bush. Nothing! Any chance this is a nasty case of wishful thinking?

W has to be worse than Carter for the sole fact he's had twice as much time to screw the country up.

Nope. I thought he was a lousy governor and he has totally screwed the illegal alien situation. However, he has put a finger in the dike holding back the extremists wanting to destroy America. You can argue methods but not results. No doubt in my mind that the next president will be a democrat and will immediately wave a white flag. If you have any doubt about that just listen to Reid and Pelosi.

This will really tag the U.S. as a paper tiger and the extremists will correctly deduce that the American people don't have the stomach nor the back bone to do what has to be done or to complete their commitments.

Believe me, I hope I'm wrong for my children's, grandchildren's, and great grandaughter's sake.

What results are we talking about here?

Are you kidding?

In the last six years we have become a harder target, but not a hard one yet which I blame on lax immigration enforcement. Look to the east to see the Muslim effect in Europe. England, Germany and France have real problems. We get pissed when illegals march in the street with Mexican flags, Muslim march in Europe carrying signs promising death to all non-Muslims. Spain operates out of fear and the extremists KNOW they can control elections with threats of violence because they have done it.

The more liberal our leaders, the more like Europe we will become and in my opinion that is not a good thing.

I hope you realize that we have been under attack for the past thirty years. It is not a political issue since leaders of both parties have failed to take the actions needed to protect us from this threat.

They just don't want to offend anyone or make anyone feel uncomfortable so they do nothing. The media would have a field day with them if they did anything at all. I believe that our government needs to grow some C.O. Jones and take care of this problem and tell the media to shove it. BTW, when the terrorists figure out we have NO borders WE ARE SCREWED!!!!

1948 had a lot to do with the "troubles" coming from the Middle East as well.

WWII had ALOT to do with our problems and us helping Israel become a state over there. If it wasn't for that I don't think we would have ANY problems with them. I think we would have champaign parties with them every weekend and our leaders would bathe in oil with them.
