Who is worse Zo or Buzz

Also, I'm pretty sure that Lofton was on the verge of transferring if Buzz had been brought back in '06. Can you imagine the years from '06-'08 without Chris?

Yeah I remember when Jajuan Smith broke that to the media. Jajauan and Chris came into a meeting or something late. Bruce went off making them run. Then Chris told Jajuan this is what we need. Basically showing Buzz wasn't going to push them to get better but the new guy was gonna rip them a new one no matter if he made the star shooter upset or not.

I'm not really sure how Buzz isn't considered the worse coach. He basically had 1 season out of 4 that was as good as any of Martin's 3. Plus he was pretty much an idiot.

They're both worse than what Tennessee deserve(d)(s).From a standpoint of wins and losses though, I don't think anyone can argue the SEC is currently better than it was during Buzz's tenure. In my opinion, this neutralizes Cuonzo's better SEC record.

Comparing the records is moot when you look at the overall results. Zero Tournament appearances.

What you have to look at is their coaching prowess and I use that term loosely.

Buzz continued to change offensive and defensive philosophies ultimately detrimental to team chemistry. His game management was piss poor, case in point, January 20, 2004, the last Buzz coached Tennessee game I attended. Up by 3, all momentum going Tennessee's way and his inability to communicate to his team to foul allowed UK to score and tie for OT, eventually losing.

Cuonzo has poor presence in big games and as we are currently witnessing, head scratching moments that ultimately lose those games.

They are eerily similar in one aspect. Back in the day when Freak and I were doing the radio show, I referred to Buzz Peterson's style as "Option A" basketball. He was incapable of drawing up a play that had a second option if the first was well-defended. Cuonzo seems to have adopted the same philosophy. Past the drawn up "play" of getting it to one player (McRae against Mizzou, e.g.) the team had nowhere else to go.

Buzz got fired over it, Cuonzo? Who knows, but today's timeout with 3 seconds while the go-ahead basket is falling may be the death knell.

I remember Buzz made me so angry because he wouldn't commit to an identity. At least Cuonzo does the same things he just sucks at them. With Buzz, we are gonna try and press. That doesn't work We are gonna try and slow it down. We are gonna try and pound it to the big guys. We are going to try and rely on Higgins and Holden to knock down the 3 ball. Man he made me furious but rooted for him because like Cuonzo was a great person.

Buzz was just a hair suckier than Zo. They both suck. But neither can equal the absolute stench emitted by Wade the Fade.

Buzz had CJ Watson, Chris Lofton, and Jajuan Smith his last year and failed to even go to the NIT, much less the NCAA, or have an overall winning record. Martin may be underachieving but it's almost impossible to suck as badly as Buzz and Wade did.

Fwiw, tomorrow is the 6th anniversary of our win in Memphis that lead to our only ever No. 1 ranking... I really think that can happen again if we bring Bruce back. I'm going to watch some of it on youtube now and reminisce a bit. Ahh, the good ole days of just 6 years ago!

You mean his son? He was gone by that 5 win season.

ok Timing was off maybe a year but still he never won anything with Yes. His son. Getting beat by 60+ points to Kentucky was a great memory. What did his son have like 3 points that game. Also refresh my memory was Ed Gray on that 5 win team or on Oneills first or both?

Nice comparison, Buzz was a genuinely good guy and so is Cuonzo, and I think the big problem with both of them is the inability to win close games. If it was a close game with Buzz in the last minute, then we were in trouble. It's pretty much the same way with Cuonzo and i'm afraid it's gonna be his downfall.

Yes. Allan was 1-14 in the 101-40 anal probe we got that night. I remember it because it was the night of the blizzard and it snowed close to two feet. The team should have had to walk back to Knoxville after that sorry performance.

Buzz always liked to bring up the fact that he was Michael Jordan's roommate in college. Like that automatically made him a good coach.

Buzz was snake bit for sure. without getting into other topics that don't apply here. I have personal reasons Im against gambling. But If I did like to throw down wagers if its a game of 5 points or less never take Buzz. Yes Cuonzo is running out of chances to turn that perception of him around.

Our first clue should have been, well with all this time they have spent together as a player none of the greatness rubbed off on ole Buzz. AS for executive basketball decisions as coaching/general manager type decisions both Jordan and Buzz stink out loud.

I know that a lot of people didn't like Jerry Green because of his laid back personality and his teams did have a way of falling apart in the post season (SW Mo State most notably) but the fact is that Tennessee fired coaches in 2001 and 2011 who were a combined 10-10 at making the big dance and replaced them with coaches who will now be a combined 0-7. If that doesn't sum up Tennessee basketball and the ineptitude of our AD's I don't know what does. Hart has a chance to be a hero now and revive this program but he may have to stand up to Cheek to do it. I do have some hope.

Yeah definitely an interesting pattern there.

Don't forget about the great Dane Bradshaw.

As pitiful as CCM is I do believe Buzz was worse. Both blow chunks. It's time to get a real coach in here. Either BP or similar. Wonder if Hart knows what a HR his hiring of Pearl would be?

Tough one. Pretty close on how boring and sloppy both of these coach"s squads were. I'd have to give Buzz the edge , but only slightly.

Buzz is worse and it isn't even close. Cuonzo is not achieving what most thought was an easy road to the NCAA tournament, but Buzz ball was completely frustrating on a whole other level.
