Both recruited him, but after Pearl was fired, Martin had to earn him on his own. Stokes wasn't even going to give CCM a chance, but answered one of his calls by mistake. The rest, as they say, is history.

There is great debate about this but Pearl started it and Martin finished. Overall, I think CCM did well closing him. IIRC, UT was out of the picture after Pearl was fired.
