Who recruited Stokes....Pearl or Martin ??

What is your authority for such a blanket statement? Your anecdotal experience?

Sure...go back 5 years, look at every 5* that committed to a school. Now out of those how many of them had coaches they committed to get fired before they enrolled, now out of those, how many stuck to the school and enrolled when the new coach was hired...

Both recruiting him...but CCM sealed the deal. If you talk to Memphis fans he was theirs they just have a scholly open ...speaking of Memphis fans, where has Memphis canes been?

The Memphis things has some truth to it. Stokes was an early enrollee that actually started playing at UT in December after he graduated from high school that same month. Memphis did not have a scholarship for a "mid-term early enrollee". He didn't even play high school basketball that year. He transferred before the season started and by rule had to sit. That also contributed to his early availability. Cuonzo's continued effort and Memphis' lack of planning gave us the opportunity with Stokes.

The reality is once Pearl was fired, Tennessee was out if the picture. Perfect set if circumstances gave UT a second chance.

And what was the mathematical outcome of that?

Another way to say anecdotal if you have no real proof. Surely there is someone who has actually analyzed your belief using some factual information.

I'd say it's so widely known that nobody has bothered doing a scientific study. Kids sign where they like the coach and can get on the floor and win.

My impression is that Stokes came here mainly because we held a spot for him and Memphis didn't.

How many stuck with the original coach at his new school, assuming said coach got another job?
Not sure, but here's a good example...

When Calipari left Memphis for UK how did that one turn out? 3 or 4 de-commit from Memphis and commit to Kentucky?

So you are both of the opinion that players signed at UT because they wanted to play for the great Dooley? I DON'T THINK SO. I think it is obvious that players that are not highly recruited or are not top players choose the school. AnD that is most of the 2 and 3 star players around the country WHO ARE THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE AVAILABLE PLAYERS.

Which is why I specifically said 5* not 2&3 stars

You think players sign with a school?

That's cute.

That is your first quote. Sounded like you were saying bleeding TNorange was just wrong. I did not see the "5 star" constriction until later. I credit that you refined it later and I agree if you only mean 5 stars. I assume gavol meant only 5 star too but did not specify.

Yeah, I meant the elite guys.

Both recruited him, but after Pearl was fired, Martin had to earn him on his own. Stokes wasn't even going to give CCM a chance, but answered one of his calls by mistake. The rest, as they say, is history.

Wow. Never been more happy for an accidentally hit answer button.

Are you talking about Verbal commit or Signed commit?

I think you meant verbal, instead of enrolled?

You are right with the 5 stars though. They don't even care about the major.

This might be a different thread, but have there been many 5 stars that actually graduated??

Did those recruits have offers from KY from Billy G?

The ones that didn't, definitely followed Calipari, but the others might have been different.

CBP is the Auburn Tigers coach. He doesn't care about Tennessee. Get over it. I heard Wes Rucker say on the Sports Station in Mobile that he isn't convinced BP would have even signed with Tennessee, because of the baggage with the way he was fired! Admit it, BP is with Auburn now. Let's move on! We have an important game today. Go Vols, beat UMass!

Regarding Stokes:
People forget that Kentucky was part of the equation. He also considered them but they too didn't have a scholarship available.
1.Tennessee had the schollie numbers right
2. Martin changed his number
3. Stokes inadvertantly picked up.
4. He now wears ORANGE

Stokes wanted to go to KY and Memphis but they did not have scholarship left due to Stokes academic status. Maybe even Vandy too. We got him by default. We wer 3rd or 4th in line.

I think it's different in football.
