Who recruited Stokes....Pearl or Martin ??

Stokes wanted to go to KY and Memphis but they did not have scholarship left due to Stokes academic status. Maybe even Vandy too. We got him by default. We wer 3rd or 4th in line.

Who gives a rat's butt? He uniform reads, "TENNESSEE". That's all I need to know.

Stokes doesn't get near the appreciation he should IMO, truly one of the best college bigs in the nation.

maybe if he would make war faces and scream people would start talking about how tough he is. The guy never changes expression but he is a warrior and gets beat up a lot more than he should. I am not implying that he is in the class with Shaq but he gets the same treatment. He gets mugged consistently but since he doesn't fall and people bounce off him he does not get the calls.

(Sorry, don't follow BB recruiting )

Well, if you follow the timeline, 'You know who' had a cup of coffee with him and then Cuonzo recruited him for 6-7-8 months before he finally signed. I'd pretty much conclude that Cuonzo had more to do with Stokes being here. But it makes the 'You know who' lovers feel better to think Stokes is someone elses recruit.

It is well-known, that if "you know who" were never fired, Stokes would have been at UT. That was almost a mathematical certainty. When he was fired, Stokes reevaluated his situation, and wasn't even going to give Martin a chance to recruit him because he had developed such a relationship with "you know who", and that was all he knew about Tennessee.

He accidentally answered one of Martin's phone calls one day, and they had an instant connection once he gave him a chance. The rest is history.

My point is that "you know who" did a lot of leg work and built a strong relationshio with Stokes, and almost certainly had him in the bag. Then the NCAA came calling and CCM had to hit reset and start from scratch.

Bull ******* ****!!!! Anybody who signs MONTHS after a 'you know who' is fired.....that coach gets the credit. My point is that if a kid commits because of a coach then all bets are off once that coach is gone. But if he commits anyway, especially after all those months, then he did so because of the coach of record. Stokes is all Cuonzo, get used to it.

And why would a guy have to' reevaluate' his situation if it was clear he was 'UT all the way'? Bottom line is, Cuonzo recruited him.

You need your meds?

Where did I say Martin doesn't get full credit for securing his signature? In fact, I've argued the exact opposite on numerous occasions in this very forum.

The fact is, he had a very strong relationship with Pearl, and perhaps more specifically, Steve Forbes.

Martin deserves all the credit, but I chose to highlight the facts and details of the former staff's prior involvement with him as more than "a cup of coffee" as you called it, rather than gloss over them.

CBP is the Auburn Tigers coach. He doesn't care about Tennessee. Get over it. I heard Wes Rucker say on the Sports Station in Mobile that he isn't convinced BP would have even signed with Tennessee, because of the baggage with the way he was fired! Admit it, BP is with Auburn now. Let's move on! We have an important game today. Go Vols, beat UMass!

CBP is the coach at auburn now, and I'm sure he's grateful for a second chance at high major college basketball. But to say he doesn't care about Tennessee is a little overkill. The man still loves the university and Knoxville. His profession just took him elsewhere.

That would be his 3rd chance. He was blackballed for a long while. Milwaukee was considered his second chance.

“@Ben_Fred: Stokes: "We have a lot of loyal fans. But we also have a lot of unloyal fans. And they were still stuck on the whole Bruce Pearl situation."”

I thought you guys said the team wasn't using that as a motivator this morning? You and EZ both basically denied it and twisted it into "posters claiming responsibility" for the players coming together.

Now this afternoon, Stokes brings it up. Go figure.

I missed where he said it was motivation?

From the rest of his quote it sounds like he's calling out the fair weather fans, surely you know what I'm talking about.
