Some in the vol family are panicking because we haven't committed a big time qb. Who says you must have one? Nick Marshall and aj mcclarron aren't elite qbs. They're good qbs but not elite. We need a competent qb who knows the offense and is mobile.

You are very right. It is nice to have an elite QB but a guy who knows and can play his role while "managing and leading" the O... works too.

I would consider McCarron an elite college QB. I mean look at his stats and championships.

Marshall is an elite QB for the system he runs.

You need a great QB for your system. Anything sub par will create sub par results.

maybe not ELITE. But you do need good. Yes, you need a good qb to win in the sec. Worley is a good qb. Dobbs will get better as well.

Um McCarron was a big time QB out of high school.

One only needs to look at the past national champions to see the value of an elite QB. And McCarron was an elite college QB.

AJ McCarron was a 4*coming out of high school and ranked #7 at his position, in his class. I'd say that just might qualify him as "elite." Of course the talent around him at UA didn't hurt at all, but the guy was pretty damn elite from start to finish.

Marshall, on the other hand, has a ton of athleticism, but is 100% a product of the system Malzahn runs...just like Tebow, Crouch, etc.

They need to be elite coming out of high school. It depends on what prism you are looking through. Marshall was moved to his position but was an elite athlete. McCarron was an elite QB coming out of high school. They don't have to be first round draft picks to the NFL but they need to be near the top coming out of high school. Kelly, Shuler, Manning, Martin, Clausen, Ainge, Crompton, Bray were all elite high school QB's. Most all of them had elite players out of high school competing with them for the job as well.

If we want to be SEC champs, do we need an elite QB? Yes.

If we want to be National champs, do we need an elite QB? YES.

If we want to be have a vast improvement over the last 5 years and go to a bowl game this year and perhaps end with a 7-6 or 8-5 record, do we need an elite QB? No, we merely need someone competent who can hold on to the ball and manage the new RB and WR weapons we have.

Agree to a point..... but look at the talent he had around him. If AJ played for us last year....would he have been more productive than Worley or Dobbs?
You are talking about Nattys? AJ handing the ball off to 1 of 5 Herschel Walkers...then sometimes throwing a safe pass to a top rated receiver..........doesn't make AJ an elite QB. Elite QB's make a team better. Bama players made AJ better and NFL teams knew this....hence the draft results. Elite...no

Yes, he would have been more productive. UF (likely) and Vandy would have been wins. I don't know about UGA or USCe.
