i still say fulmer is to blame,  and i hope he proves me wrong and wins the sec next year so i can tell everybody i was wrong.  he has a chance to turn things around if he hires henning,  but he won't.  cutcliff will be the OC next year and we will finish around 7-4.

As I have stated in an earlier post, CPF has a way of diverting attention and blame away from himself like any good politician. I think it's time for him to step up to the plate, look in the mirror, and finally be honest with the fans and start accepting responsibility for the team's downfall. I know that any good respectable coach would say it's "his ship" and not let an assistant coach take the blame.

Whom ever comes in to be the OC needs to clean house on offense and should be able to pick his own staff and install his own scheme and if it is not the best possible OC in America, Mike Hamilton and Fulmer have slighted the State of Tennessee.

I agree TBall. I just hope the good ol' boys can give up their control for this to happen. It's going to be tough to remove some of the good ol' boys in a good ol' boy system. Let's hope it can be done.

THIS IS "ALL" FULMERS FAULT.
I din't want to say it because he is like the father of a my child (The Team) that shined at one point, but now he has lost control of his, spoiled, stuck-up, misbehaved, and full of excuses team. It the Childs (team) Parents
(coaching->Fulmer) Fault. We might be to far for counseling, we need Fulmer to send it to the next generation.

Okay, we've talked all around it...so let's talk about it.

Who will stand accountable at the end of the season for the failure(s) of 2005?

Sanders?  Already did.  Washington? Maybe.  Stephens?  Maybe.  Stop by the Sentinel, Tennessean, Fox, ESPN, or any of a dozen other websites, and rumors run rampant as to who (if any) will answer for then embarrassment that had become the 2005 Vols season.

Turnovers...dropped passes...missed blocks...untimely penalties...bad karma...tough opponent...tough schedule...wind blowing the wrong way...we've heard them all, haven't we?

Crap.  All of it.  Big time players make big time plays in big time games.  Big time teams win big time games.  When the going gets tough...the Vols fold.  Except for 30 minutes against an emotionally exhausted LSU team, the Vols are 2-6...and rightfully so.  And when it's time to hold someone accountable for a team with this talent falling woefully short of it's potential...you need look no farther than the top.

I am, and have been, a rabid Volunteer fan since day one.  Grew up in the shadow of Neyland Stadium...and caught more touchdown passes than I can count playing for UT in my back yard.  You name the player, or the play...I've lived it out; either in my back yard, or in the dreams that followed every Vol win...or loss.  I am a UT football fan.  I love my Vols.

Except for here lately.  Lately being defined as the last 7 or so years.  What have we done in the last 7 years?  The last 80 or so games.  Anything noteworthy?  Any National Championsips?  No.  Any SEC Championships?  No.  Any big bowl wins?  Well...yeah...we beat Texas A&M last year.

I'm sick of hearing about Fulmer's winning percentage, and tired of ignoring his losing percentage against credible opponents.  I have nothing against Coach Fulmer...except that he has turned my beloved Vols into the laughing stock of the SEC East...the SEC...and every sports writer in the country.

Hoss, when Steve Spurrier beats you, on your home field, with what amounts to the second best high school team in South Carolina...you have a problem.

We, collectively, are in a state of denial as to "what ails the Vols".  The UT Athletic Department...known for bad hiring decisions (look no further than the men's basketball program)...refuses to acknowledge it's most pressing problem, probably because of the potential impact on future revenue.  A full stadium, win or lose, equals a good program...and millions of dollars for same.

Show up with 40,000 fans, and watch Mike Hamilton get interested in UT football.  Sad, ain't it?

Remember the disappointment of 1999?  What changed?  2001?  2003?  Add 2005 to the list.  And ask yourself this question:  What is the one, single constant factor that has plagued UT football in what was supposed to be "championship" years?

Who stands accountable?

Good post, but we did slaughter Michigan in 2002 42-17, the year we should have been playing for the NC.

I agree with you completely. However, no program stays on top forever. Norte Dame is finally returning to form after 10+ years of losing. Oklahoma's run at NC's is finally over. Nebraska is sorry now. I believe these things go in cycles.

We are down now, but things will turn back around. It's the law of physics.

The biggest difference I see is that this program just isn't "hungry" anymore. That applies from top to bottom. Not top without bottom. Not bottom without top. Both should be held liable. I see the coaches not preparing players, but I dont see how these guys can go out week to week against tough opponents and just allow themselves to be dominated over and over without wanting to do something about it themselves. Hell, who said you have to have a coach tell you everything. If he's not doing his job, the players have to step up and take it upon themselves to make some plays. Not X's and O's but just doing things to make a difference between the whistles, and maybe that'll get a spark that can be built upon. :wavey:
