Bowl exposure for recruiting in trade, I suppose. If your school hasn't been to a bowl or played post season in a decade, you're not easily getting good recruits.Universities lose their ass participating
the extra practices can't be ignored either. Its another 15 practices, even if all don't get used. its basically another spring camp, just in the winter...Bowl exposure for recruiting in trade, I suppose. I suppose NIL money could make it up for getting recruits and that's donor not school money, I guess.
There's also the career aspirations of the AD and admins to say the school went to a bowl, especially if they're trying to move up to a better school.
Why do you care if they still exist or not? If you don't like those games, why not just ignore them? I have never watched an Alamo Bowl. I couldn't tell you the winner of even one of those games .... but it doesn't bother me that it is still played every year. The music city, taxpayers and Belk bowls can't die quick enough.
I think we'll see more of what we used to call "they didn't want to be there" bowl performances. In a way, teams are punishing themselves by refusing a bowl bid. That's an extra several weeks of practice and player development that the "non-bowl" get.
Should at least have bowls in warm climate areas. Give the kids on the team somewhere fun to go, a lot of them probably have never experienced some places. Then fans get to take a small vacation to somewhere warm and fun.
They also took away 4 Bowl games, They will only be played by playoff teamsSo. If you miss the playoffs you can still qualify for a bowl...but there are so many bowls, that last year, 5-7 teams were having to be given a bowl bid. Now we have 8 more bowl eligible spots open due to expanding the playoffs.
Do we start letting in 4-8 teams?
