Allvol, I don't mean to keep chasing you around this board, but I seem to remember that even dear ole Darryl Dickey moved to safety for at least a short time when it became clear that he wasn't going to succeed Alan Cockrell and Tony Robinson became the starter.

Do you want a quarterback, who when he realizes he's not going to start asks to be moved to another position.... or do you want a qb who waits... and stays ready?

Example being Daryl Dickey in 1985.

Was CJ thinking of himself or the team when he moved positions? If he had stayed at quarterback.... helped the younger guys.... and been ready.... Notre Dame could have been his moment to shine.... and Vanderbilt.... and Kentucky... and the SECCG.

I think Rick Clausen has to be the guy now. Just my :twocents:

I don't blame CJ at all, we are so deep at QB. I think he just wants to play football and get on the field. CJ was used to being the star and then he rides the bench for 5 years and watchs his brother become a star, it's gotta be tough!!!!!!

*Remember these guys LOVE football, and when they don't play it kills them.

Dickey came to UT as a QB in 1980. Missed the following season due to injury. Played in the secondary when he returned... but decided to stick it out as a backup QB according to the 1985 media guide. He was the primary backup to Tony Robinson in 1984 and again in 1985. When Robinson was injured in 1984, Dickey came in against Army and passed for 14-of-24 for 167 yards in the eventual 24-24 tie. He finished his junior season 17-of-30 for 194 yards and 1 int. He remained the backup going into his senior season. When SI coverboy Tony Robinson went down against Alabama, Dickey pulled the season together for an SEC Championship and MVP of the Sugar Bowl victory over Miami. Dickey finished the season 85-of-131 for 1161 yards and 10 TDs... only 1 interception. Dickey passed for 15-of-25 for 131 yards , 1 TD and 1 int in the Sugar Bowl.

Yeah. Unless there's a part to the story that I don't know. I didn't hear anything about him pitching a fit to move; I kinda thought the coaching staff was trying to use his ability somewhere on the field when it was likely that he'd just call in plays with 2 QB's ahead of him.

And man, that was low on the TD comment! :shakehead:

I don't think he pitched a fit either, I think he just wants a chance to play.

Just a joke guys!

:good: Thanks Allvol. I knew I had a vague memory of Darryl Dickey playing safety . . . but I didn't look it up - because I knew I could depend on you to supply the information. :D

I'll never forget being at Legion Field when Tony Robinson blew out his knee. I was 12, I was devastated, and I was sure that we were going to lose every game after that. :shakehead:

Do you remember the next game against Ga Tech? The Vols kicked 2 field goals in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 6-6. The last field goal with 4 seconds remaining, from 51 yards, just barely crossed the bar with no time left. The first field goal was from 55 yards out. Majors used a conservative plan for the game, but when the game was on the line, he let Dickey open up and the Vols drove from their own 23 to the Tech 34. Dickey completed a couple of passes to Vince Carter and Eric Swanson and smartly ran out of bounds on a scramble to stop the clock with 4 seconds left and set up the game tying field goal.

:eek:lol: I vividly remember Carlos Reveiz skimming the crossbar on the FG with time running out because my Dad and I both were yelling and it made my little sister start crying.

Whatever happened to the Reveiz family? If the Colquitts can start sending 2nd generation kickers our way, isn't it about time for Fuad and Carlos to step up?? :D
