Why are NCAA athletes drug tested?

Recreational marijuana use is not illegal everywhere. Student athletes could be consuming in a place where it is legal. I was simply stating that I think the "it's illegal" claim is not sufficient when student athletes could be legally consuming weed.

It is illegal everywhere regardless if states choose to turn there head the other way for a few bucks.

It is not illegal "everywhere." Many nations prohibit recreational use of marijuana, but not all of them do.

I think he means in the US. While its "legal" in Colorado and a few other places, the official federal stance is its totally illegal. The Feds are just too busy waging wars on terror and crap to bother with it

The NCAA drug tests student athletes for performance enhancing drugs these are random drug tests unless the athlete has been caught before which in the case the student athlete will be tested often....student athletes getting caught is their own fault the NCAA only does pee tests no blood work...so you can stop blaming the NCAA for athletes getting caught ( I used to work in NCAA athletic administration I would know)

I was under the impression that the OP was not questioning the testing for PEDs but the testing for drugs that are not performance enhancing.
