Any reason why Hart chose to settle for Butch Jones?
Before I get the negavol not a vfl, support our coach hate. I'm just asking because it's quite odd that after so many rejections from the top college head coaches, one would assume we would look at a few NFL coaches. Hart didn't go after any NFL coordinators and there were reportedly a few interested in the job. He also didn't wait for the NFL season to end and puruse any fired NFL head coaches. Maybe, he was worried that a Lane Kiffin sceanrio would happen, but that would be rare. Just very odd to me.

He said from the beginning that our next coach would have HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE.. We have no room to see can some position or coordinator coach become an elite HC in the SEC.

He did settle. His first (college) option was Stoops then Jimbo Fisher then Gundy, then Strong, then Jones.

Not knocking the hire, but that is settling.

Stoops, Fisher, and Gundy were all unrealistic (as well as Gruden). Therefore he (we) got his second choice

An NFL coordinator who has zero HC experience. If after 2 years he does well he will go right back and be an NFL HC.

I don't think it was settling. I'm not saying it was his first or even 3rd choice. When Hamilton hired Dooley that was settling. I honestly believe there's a difference in not getting your first choice and settling.

Because he is a bad Athletic director. Tennessee needed a name hire to recruit the top players in the nation. Nfl coach gets top recruits attention.

I really liked the idea of Mike Singletery? He would kill as a college coach and recruiter.

He's a complete goober when it comes to x's and o's. The idiot hired Jimmy Raye, and that got him fired. He's the NFL's Dooley.

Well I think it's more his coaching style. He is a tough demanding coach tough on players. He can't do that on NFL players make more and you can't yell anything at a grown man. He mainly would line up recruits. And in the SEC that's what it's about.

Cheek and Hart have messed up enough father time will take care of both of them i hope.We can play the why not game forever. But here's the REALITY Butch Jones is our coach give him a chance or find another bandwagon to follow. To compete he must recruit and we no little on that yet. He has been dealt a hand of a loaded 3 star recruits we must turn this the next 10 weeks. Then we see can he coach his kids up something Dooley couldn't do if anything DD coached them down and he never could count to 11.In closing i say one thing GO VOLS.

College football and pro football are totally different animals. It is the exception and not the rule for coaches to be successful at both.

There are some very distinct differences between a quality coordinator and a quality HC - even at the NFL level. If you hire someone who has no experience as a HC, you are gambling.

My current home-town Rams are an excellent example:

After the 1999 Superbowl and a couple of years of "The Greatest Show on Turf," everyone in the NFL was convinced that Mike Martz was the be-all, end-all king of football knowledge. He was the brain-child of the Rams and at the top of the list of "HC in waiting" for the NFL.

The Rams were so worried about losing him that they ran Dick Vermeil (a proven HC) out of town and made Martz the HC here in St. Louis. It only took a couple of years before the Rams sucked again.

They hired Scott Linehan - another hot offensive coordinator. He sucked. They continued to suck.

They hired Steve Spagnuolo - this time a hot defensive coordinator. He sucked. They continued to suck.

They hired Jeff Fisher - a proven HC. They are at .500 with an outside shot at the playoffs in his first year.

And the Titans(dumbass Adams) worried about losing VY (mr unemployed) and ended up losing Fisher and have sucked ever since. Rams better hang on to him he's one of the best. :hi:

Yes the rams should hang onto him. He's the best they have had since the 70s but... there is no way he compares with the best coaches in the nfl.
