Why do people feel sorry for Dooley?

Why? Because they feel sorry for themselves for supporting him for the better part of three years. They've got to find something to justify their complete adoration for Dooley and his abilities as a coach, so we get the "he's a good guy" garbage.

What we see on the field, the lack of leadership, the lack of courage, and the absolute willingness to quit when the going gets tough, are a reflection of the leadership, courage, and determination of the head coach himself.

Good man? Hardly. He should be ashamed of himself for the example he has set for the young men wearing Tennessee colors now.

Who the hell are you calling people idiots? We don't necessarily feel sorry for him but we ain't gonna talk about him like he's a piece of **** either. It's the easy thing to do to kick a man when he's down. He tried his hand at it and failed. Your sideline? You play for UT or have you ever played at UT? If not, then don't call it your sideline like you know what in the hell it's like. If you ain't ever laid any sweat or blood or time on UT's practice or game field then don't call it yours.

You know what, you have your opinion and I have mine.

And I'll stick with mine despite your asinine post.

Anyone who feels sorry for this guy is an idiot. I don't think Dooley is gonna stand up at that podium and ask for or expect pity. He tried to do a job and failed miserably at it. He will move on with life and so will the Vols.

Feel sorry for him? No. The man had a chance of a lifetime opportunity and blew it.

Resumes aren't needed prior to posting here but I'd like to see your letterman's card as well tough guy. You've got no idea what I have done for that school.

ANYONE who has invested time, money, blood, sweat, and emotion in this program has a right to be disappointed right now.

The ones I feel for are those seniors who have went through one of the worst stretches this program has ever seen. The ones that had their college robbed by one wretched decision after another made by Dooley.

hate is the wrong word. resentment is better. here's a guy with zero qualifications who is handed a multi-million dollar coaching job, who proceeds to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt the level of his incompetence, then walks off with another five million bucks, leaving u.t. in shambles. no, i don't and never have hated him. but, i confess, i resent the hell out of him. hate is something to be used with words like hamilton.

Why do you people feel sorry for him, I just don't get it? Was he forced into this situation against his will? He could have quit this job at anytime, like lots of other coaches do (usually good coaches though). He knew the deal when he signed on the dotted line 3 years ago (for millions of dollars btw). And are we about to kick him and his family out on the street?? No, instead, for being officially the worst coach in UT history we are giving him more money to leave than you or I will ever see in our lifetimes of working hard at a regular job. And don't tell me "but he really loves this university and the team". The day he says that he will not accept his $5 Mill buyout so that UT can go buy a real coach is the day that I believe that garbage. So please stop feeling sorry for a lawyer with rich parents who sucked at his job yet will make more money getting fired than you will see in your lifetime. Just sayin'.

I don't feel sorry for him. But I'll tell you why I feel "bad" for him. 'Cause he's a good guy. He's friendly, charismatic, caring, and the kind of guy you'd want to be your neighbor. He's got a nice family and comes from a great tradition of SEC football. He's not stoic and crabby like Nick Saban. He's not a nut like Muschamp. He comes off as if he genuinely cares about people and his players.

So I'd like to see a guy like that prosper and do well. So this is a "people" thing and not a football thing. What's more important brother.....football......or a human being? That doesn't mean I think he should stay. His time is done. He got a fair shot. It didn't work. He needs to go and I've supported that for many weeks. But that doesn't mean that just because he will make a ton of money....that we need to crucify the guy and put he and his family on a wagon and run them out of town.

He's a good guy.

Thanks for giving it a shot Coach Dooley.

I'll shake your hand any day.

Lot of "smart" ones in this thread. Does it occur to any of you "smart", "honorable" "fans" that DD would gladly give up the 5 mill in exchange for a few decent seasons. You "fans" act like he didn't give a crap about our school. Is this what we call redneck class? Hillbilly Honor? Pious hillbillies, my azz.

I'm not real sure how he's gotten that reputation with people around here. We're talking about a guy who basically called one of his players a p**** for not being able to play through a career ending injury, and routinely threw his players under the bus for losing games. What other college coaches do that? Also, you just hear stories from a lot of other places that Dooley is actually a major a-hole. I guess it's his southern accent and goofy quotes at the press conferences that make people think he must be a stand up guy.

Yep.

Ask some of the folk around the AD what they really think of Dooley.

Ask some of his former players at LA Tech.

Sorry to offend some of the posters who fashion themselves as the board police around here, but the man doesn't deserve any pity or sorrow.

He tried and he failed. It's past time to move on.
