Why do we pay (Federal) taxes?

The money is coming from the feds because the feds take the money from you. Take the federal tax away and the state citizens magically have money that can be taxed to build and repair their roads.
That would be accurate if the FED didn’t have a money printing machine they use in addition to what they take from us.

Your point? I was backing up the assertion that a lot of local/state roads get federal money. If you're opposed to the way that's done you're welcome to quit driving on those roads. I'd be interested to see a breakdown of which states get more money from the feds for roads than they send to the feds.

I'm afraid you're almost implying that states should be responsible for building their own roads instead of being subsidized by others via federal tax.

A lot of states, even the red ones, would be in big trouble if they didn't have the feds backing them up on infrastructure projects.

Those things would never exist without government. The government built the federal highway system which allowed Henry Ford to mass produce the automobile. The government built airports which allowed the Wright Bro’s to be the first in powered flight.
How did they know planes were on the way when they built those airports?

As the owner of three businesses...BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Oh don't lie.....

You know u S corped to avoid paying the payroll tax, used the lowest medium salary possible to base your actual w2 pay on, leased your vehicles to write off the entire sports car payment that is under 5500 gvw, write off the SUV as a one time lump, write off your dedicated home office, and then use a sep or simple to stock away everything above 24k in remaining income so that you finish with 0 net income and actually receive a child credit and got a tax return.

Just admit it.

I promise the libs on here will understand lol.

Tell them you made 240k and actually got a 5000 return and it's all legal.

Throw that grenade into this forum.

Federal (income) taxes are used as a control mechanism to manipulate behavior. A consumption tax voids that control as we can shop for the best deals, lowering our tax liability and having little or no requirements to answer to the government. Federal income taxes can be used to affect aggregate demand, thereby expanding or contracting the economy, changing consumer/tax payer behavior. That control can be more firmly applied in the form of penalties if one cannot satisfy their federal tax obligation. IOW, that’s why the politicians hate the idea of a consumption tax. They can’t make us their b***.
