Why Does Tennessee Have Bad Instate Talent?

Rogan comes to mind I guess.

Rogan rushed for 2800+ yards and 44 tds as a senior in high school....he was pretty much a converted rb to db...

now imagine if he was at...say...St. Thomas Aquinas and was playing and focusing on db while he was there...

he goes from a 3 star all purpose back to atleast a highly ranked 4 star db...

The biggest factor isnt demographics or anything like that. It is the lack of quality football programs before middle school and the fact that most of the highschool coaches are teachers as well.

I think it has to do with the kids themselves.........if kids have all the x boxes.....gameboys......WII etc they tend to sit in front of a TV playing all the time. I think (even though Tennessee is not the rich and famous) the income per family has something to do with it. Most of the kids that are really good come from low income and all they have is sports and they see it a way to get out......just a thought

how is Oher a bust? Drafted in the first round by the Ravens to a 5 year $13 million dollar contract. And was the best OL in the nation coming out of high school.

I'd say the talent is here, it's just not coached up as well as you see in other states. There's probably more emphasis on education and funding doesn't go to athletics like it does in elsewhere.

call me crazy but i think Alcoa won 7-8 state titles in a row and beating the state champs school in kentucky(i cant remember there name)but it was bad(47-12 i believe)

I'm talking about coaches, not the schools. I was using that as an example. There seems to be a decline in quality coaching at the high school level. Alcoa has always had a good program. Now if the other hundreds of high schools in the state would emulate (that means copy) Alcoa, then there would probably be more D1 prospects in the state.

Gerlad Riggs, Michael Oher, Patrick Turner, Golden Tate, Don'ta Hightower, Randall Cobb, Joc McClendon, Dennis Rogan, Luke Stocker, James Stone, Jacques Smith, Marlon Brown, and Barry Brunetti must not be good enough for you and isnt Calhoun Georgia is just as close to Knoxville as it is to Athens Da'Rick Rogers is from there

Other states have better coaches is a possible reason? That's one guess of mine. I know Byrnes in SC(had a cousin play there and heard this) runs the same systems from Middle school and High school, which helps the player adjust and well...we all know how successful that team is and how many prospects they produce.
