This really baffles me. Radio broadcasts, message boards, talk shows... I watch him play and he seems so slow and uninterested. In the TAMU game, multiple times players went by him while he didn't move, wasn't looking, etc. He has no ability to provide help side defense, he doesn't jump. I can't remember the last time I saw a hustle play from him.

Comes off the court after the second foul and people put up the high fives for him and he just walks by them. Then they put in Reese/etc and you see _effort_

Why doesn't he receive more criticism?

Probably because he has the highest efficiency rating on the team. Being the most efficient player prevents criticism from happening. McRae comes in at 16.40 Stokes is first at 16.73

Double double machine. Plays hard but gets discouraged by ticky tack fouls. He plays hard. He just isn't a great defender though. We don't have one inside.

He gets way too much criticism on this board. Double or triple the amount of any other player on the team and idk why?

This team is flush with reasons to be frustrated/upset, but Jarnell isn't the problem on most nights. If the officials tighten the calls, it affects everything he does. See aTm game vs LSU game.

Player efficiency rating - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I read that just now and it's pretty interesting. It lists anyone at 15 is a "pretty good player" I know that's a rough number. Might be just a heavy focus by my eyes on him. But it also shows that our best players are "pretty good players" . None of our team is really standing out it's just that Stokes/McRae happen to be the highest.

What is he most efficient at? Scoring? No, both Barton, Richardson and McRae are more efficient. Rebounding? Maymon is "technically" more efficient than Stokes.

Mock NBA draft has him going to the Houston Rockets in the 1st round. Of course, that depends on how many high schoolers and European players enter the draft.

I would bet dollars to donuts that Jarnell Stokes doesn't get drafted in the first round this spring. That's just silly.

He seems more interested in resting on his laurels and buying into the hype than in improving his game.

DraftExpress: Mock Draft

Probably the best in the business, very well respected. He updated yesterday and has Stokes going Round 2 Pick 17 and McRae going Round 2 Pick 28

Mock drafts always seem to be a little more American friendly than the actual draft ends up being.

A lot of those mid-late 2nd round picks end up being overseas players.

What team is in the market for an undersized post with a small wingspan, no explosion, no bounce, no speed and no jumper?

Someone will have to fall in love with Stokes rebounding ability to draft him. Personally, I hope the kid is taking some foreign language classes at UT because he's likely going to need them.

I'm not knocking his ability as a college player. His game just doesn't translate to the nba.

If Chuck Hayes can play in the NBA so can Stokes.

#24 misses that improbable three Saturday, or JM hits his free throws late and this thread does not happen IMO.:whistling:

McRae is getting drafted ahead of Jarnell.

Disagree, not because he's not more talented than Stokes (he is) but because GMs have a huge hang up on size/bodyweight. Remember how big a deal it was that Durant was so skinny and small and couldn't Bench Press 150, and McRae isn't near the talent or defender he was.

Well, you have to keep a couple things in mind. Number 1, Hayes wasn't drafted. I don't think Stokes will be either, so he can hang out in the D league or he can go make some money overseas. I think he will go overseas.

Second, the league is comprised of three categories in my opinion.
1 - the elite (very few)
2 - the very good players (maybe 50 guys)
3- interchangeable parts (the rest of the league)

Stokes would fall into the 3rd category. His ceiling is being a role player. Whether he finds a niche and grabs a roster spot somehow would be up to chance in my opinion. And like I said, some team has going to have to really fall in love with him during the workouts.

It could happen I guess but I just don't see it.

1. If they are worried about size, then Jarnell is much more of a concern. He's way undersized and he can't jump. Jordy is skinny but has everything else they love - athleticism, length, height, bounce, speed, scoring ability.

2. Yeah, GM's were so worried about Durant's size that they drafted him 2nd overall. If anything, Durant is an example of how silly it is to worry about a guy being skinny when it comes to playing guard in the NBA.

And I said it then, I would have taken him #1. 6-9 and can play every position but Center.

More criticism from who? Cause I know you can't possibly mean from VN, which seems to rip him with threads like this after every Vol loss.

Rebounding? Maymon is "technically" more efficient than Stokes.

Define "technically", because Stokes average 9.3 RBs in 29.2 mins per game, while Maymon averages 8.4 RBs in 26.1 mins per game. That means both of them average 1 RB slightly over every 3 mins so maybe you are referring to some other technical element of their game.
