What makes people think he's not aggressive? He's only 6' 6" and he's #2 in the SEC in rebounds. I think people look at the fact that his style doesn't include playing above the rim, and they interpret this to mean he doesn't play hard. Barkley played above the rim offensively, but when it came to rebounding and defense, he didn't. If he did, he probably wouldn't have been as good of a rebounder.
Stokes is not a good offensive player, but the dude bangs and I guarantee opposing PFs hate to play him.
What you can say about Stokes is that he is averaging 1.34 points for every shot attempted and 9.3 rebounds per game. Those are great numbers and not the reason for our losses.
1. If they are worried about size, then Jarnell is much more of a concern. He's way undersized and he can't jump. Jordy is skinny but has everything else they love - athleticism, length, height, bounce, speed, scoring ability.
2. Yeah, GM's were so worried about Durant's size that they drafted him 2nd overall. If anything, Durant is an example of how silly it is to worry about a guy being skinny when it comes to playing guard in the NBA.
It is what our fanbase does. They pick out what they don't like and try to make it the reason we are losing.
Examples include: Stokes, the motion offense, player development
When in reality the reason we aren't consistently winning is in game coaching, motivation and accountability from our head coach.
This really baffles me. Radio broadcasts, message boards, talk shows... I watch him play and he seems so slow and uninterested. In the TAMU game, multiple times players went by him while he didn't move, wasn't looking, etc. He has no ability to provide help side defense, he doesn't jump. I can't remember the last time I saw a hustle play from him.
Comes off the court after the second foul and people put up the high fives for him and he just walks by them. Then they put in Reese/etc and you see _effort_
Why doesn't he receive more criticism?
Bump. 14 and 14. 6/6 from the line 4/7 from the field.
This is the whole point. He can play like THIS and then he just disappears. Some of other guys can't play like this. Today's game by Jarnell was terrific at some points and not so much at others. And games like NC State, Auburn, TAMU, etc he was lumbering and not doing exactly what he did today.
This game was the reason for the entire thread. The 1st half, Jarnell Stokes gave the effort and aggressive intensity that we know he can give. Where is it ALL the time rather than just when he chooses to turn it on.
