Why is Chris Lofton not in the NBA?

Chris Lofton's defense < Danny Wuerffel's arm strength

wow good analogy but not saying much. Lofton got a lot of steals but most were from quick hands in passing lanes. In the NBA there is no passing unless you have a superstar on your team then you must pass to Kobe or Lebron and get out of the way. And if you dont pass to those guys get waived or traded.

Seriously. The guy hit 17 threes in one game in Turkey... what more do scouts need? Would he be a starter? Heck no. But he would make a great 3-Pt specialist and would be a beast coming off the bench.

you have obviously never watched the NBA. they have guys that can make 17 3s in a row... and also be 6-8.

Lofton was kind of slow, too short to play the 2, not a good enuf ball handler to be a 1. A defensive liability. Hes just a shooter and a gamer, nothing more nothing less. Boy was he money at UT tho...

Is JJ Redick much quicker/ faster than Lofton?? I didn't think Redick was such a trailblazer either......

Somebody needs to give him a chance but they cannot get past his size and he does not have great athletic ability but he is a beast.

I think JJ is 6-4, maybe 6-5, he is slow and can't play D, but that's alright with Orlando, if someone wants to drive past JJ, they get Howard.

Jj has actually turned out to be a pretty darn good defender. Great hands and can create his own shots. Good player off the bench.

The guy played with cancer and never whined @ it. He could avg 0.0 for his senior yr and still be a hero in my book. Wow!

He isn't fast, but he is shifty and can get to the rim and draw fouls. I also remember him consistantly scorings on circus looking drives to the rim his soph/jr years.

He has also never had a problem shooting over people with hands in his face. I see him making a soild, off the bench, scoring threat in the NBA. Wish someone would give him a shot.

Misguided is far too kind a word.

I think most people see those high numbers and assume no defense is played.

And it also contradicts the belief that Lofton should be in the NBA.

If no one plays defense, he should have no problem getting open and should be signed today.

Defense + NBA= fail ;)
You do realize that if NBA teams didn't play defense, as you are implying, teams would consistently score 150+ ppg. Considering an NBA game is 8 minutes longer than the college game and the talent level is exponentially higher, the fact that these teams don't have absurdly high point averages proves there is plenty of defense being played in the League.

Although I don't think they play much defense in the NBA, the high-scoring games are more related to longer games and shorter shot clock -- also other various rules that force more 1 on 1 match ups.

I think Lofton could come off of the bench in the NBA for some team, but I'd never confuse him with an NBA starter.

The shot clock is also 24 seconds rather than 35.

NBA is a players league. If you can play, you get a contract. You have to have people help you get your shot, you're not a player. Period.

I think y'all are overthinking the jump to the next level and overanalyzing the value of individual defense in the NBA. Steve Kerr seemed to do alright. I have found highlights of Lofton in the Spanish league. He has scored 25 and 23 in Spain's best league last two games. The guy is one of the sickest shooters of all time. The argument "well everyone is a great shooter in the NBA" does not fly with me. Everyone is not as good as Chris Lofton. Far from it. He made 15 threes in the Orlando summer league. Lofton can and will play in the NBA. you aren't as much of a defensive liability when you can drain threes constantly in people's faces. See Kevin Durant. And you Vol fans know all of this. Lofton never got enough credit for his defense and athletic ability. people always want to sell the guy short. it sickens me

I'd love for someone who doesn't think they play D in the NBA to actually go watch a game in person. You would come away with a different opinion to say the least.

Probably height and defense plus alittle short and a step slow. But i'd pay to see him at the nxt level.
