Why is it so hard to win at Texas now?

He's got good players now that will be drafted as well. He just doesn't have an elite QB.

And he won't get one because he is aq defensive coach and he now has a reputation for not developing them or nowing how to recruit them. He lucked out on Teddy Bridgewater. You HAVE to get a qb. And so this lets everyone know he can't lead a top program. All the top coaches can easily recruit qb and have them working effectively.

Strong should have never left Louisville. Not that Louisville fans are complaining now. He just wasn't prepared for the high pressure atmosphere of a place like Texas. Makes me think he would have done the same thing here.

Strong should have taken the offer from Tennessee if he wanted to move up to big conference from Louisville. Definitely think he would be better here than at Texas as boosters and administration were never 100% behind him from the get go. It's an offer no coach could turn down but I do believe he was doomed before he started as that whole school is a mess

I think Strong is a good defensive coordinator. Some guys are just better off as coordinators. Strong probably fits in that category. You put the right guy at Texas and they'd be back quick..

100%. Brown just fell off after 16-17 years like most all coaches do. And Strong just isn't the right coach for Texas, for whatever isn't a good fit. Put the right guy there and they're competing for championships again in short order. Saban would win a title there inside of 3 years IMO.

Charlie Strong is not a great coach. He caught lightning in a bottle with Teddy Bridgewater. Strong's record as coach is 53-36, but he was 30-9 with Teddy Bridgewater as QB. His record without Teddy is 23-27. Not a good coach if he doesn't have a great QB.

Yea...who was that Auburn coach when Cam won the NC? Lol!

So name the coaches who would be a fit for Texas? In my opinion Strong isn't as good as everyone thought.

I agree. The Teddy Bridgewater era was the big factor in getting coach Strong a lot of attention.

And as a professional coach I'm sure he knew that. Which is why he left. He had to take the offer. And he probably felt he could get a good qb at Texas but he didn't. And hey, $5 mill and then access to all decent HC jobs if he got fired is something any coach had to do. But it's funny how these coaches can disguise their true value with a good season or two. This why in the Power 5 conferences they get exposed in 3-4 years. Like I am truly impressed with Peterson at Washington. he obviously can coach. But this is a Texas thread. They got fooled just like We did with Dooley, and how Florida did with Muschamp. Funny how Vandy even had a better hire in the last 5 years than anybody in the East when they had Franklin. It obviously just isn't about records or conference titles!! But how do you judge that in an up and coming coach?

I'm sure Kiffin will express interest in the Texas job if the Longhorn fatcats fail to land Herman.

I see Herman hurry up and is jumping on the LSU job. Texas isn't so attractive. There's more going on there than we know. Why LSU? If Texas is up they only have to beat OU. At LSU even if you're good you have BAMA, Ole Miss, Auburn, UF, etc. That's 2 losses for sure every year. Possibly 4-5.

Herman is supposedly meeting with Texas AD and power people today. Betting he doesn't leave town unsigned.

Longhorn Network ain't helping anything

I agree. The Longhorn Network and their insistence on going it alone has done nothing but isolate them in the world of college football. Who watches it other than Texas grads? Comparatively who watches the SEC network??? Every sports bar in the country has it on from East to West coast and every place in between.

What I remember hearing when brown left was that Texas kids believe they've made it when they get that scholarship from UTA. After that many are content to coast and enjoy the perks that come from being on that team

they treated the guys like royalty under brown. I'm not sure how it was under strong but I reckon it was much different. under Brown the benefits were somewhat public, especially if you knew where to look or knew someone on the squad. my old neighbor worked at vince young's steakhouse for a couple years and it was common knowledge by the waiters and waitresses that the football players never payed for the food and never tipped. ive also been to a couple of the parties they throw, renting private bars/venues downtown, bringing in strippers/dancers/escorts, free catering, free drinks. They knew how to party and were not quiet about it either...
