This makes no sense. WTH? Cardiovascular U.

I think UT medical center has one of the nation's leading heart programs right? maybe we are giving our wide receivers implants and he was trying to break the story but didn't know how.

Another was Larry Seivers in the Battle era who was an All American (when Bob Hope announced an all American Team on his prime time show). Part of the legend started in the mid to late 1970's when UT had a recruiting poster that showed the NCAA Champion 440 Relay Team in their football uniforms! I wonder if anyone else ever remembered seeing that poster - it would be cool to see again.

And yes, for those of you wondering, the picture was in color! (So was the Bob Hope Show!)

Richmond Flowers, Stanley Morgan, Larry Seivers, Tim McGee, Willie Gault, Anthony Morgan, Carl Pickens, Peerless Price, Donte Stallworth
Enough said...

Justin Hunter is a long jumper. Does that count? I realize that long jumping does not require speed and is usually considered as "Field" in the "Track & Field' sport.

To say that Wide Receiver U started with Richmond Flowers, a great Tennessee player as was Stanley Morgan, is revisionist history. Tennessee was actually known as Linebacker U in the late 60s and early 70s. Tennessee became known as WR U during Major's "Air Tennessee" era. We put 6 wide receivers into the NFL between 1982 to 1984. Anthony Hancock (82), Willie Gault ('83) and Clyde Duncan ('84) were all 1st rounders and Darryal Wilson ('83) was a second rounder. Mike Miller was a 4th rounder in '83 and Lenny Taylor was a 12th rounder in '84. As you can see, we sent 3 WRs to the NFL in the 1st four rounds of 1983. During this era, we were loaded and had trouble getting all of our great receivers on the field. Future first rounder Duncan had to wait for the older guys to leave in order to start. Major's Air Tennessee period was truly a golden era for UT wide receivers. This is when we actually first became known as Wide Receiver U.

Absolutely correct. This period also coincided with Kippy Brown's first tenure as wide receivers coach at UT. In addition to the receivers that you named, Anthony Miller, Tim McGee, Alvin Harper and Carl Pickens all benefited from Brown’s tutelage prior to joining the professional ranks. One might call Kippy the Founding Father of Wide Receiver U.
