Why Mike Anderson? Would be a Step Backwards

But we had a clean program, and that's what matter. No illegal bbqs or lieing occured until 2006.

so you'd rather run with a freakin' interim coach for 2 freakin' years while all of our players transfer out.... and no players worthy of playing for the Chattanooga Mocs sign to play for UT during that span? Who would want to sign an LOI to a school with a guy that is only going to be coaching for 2 seasons until we bring Pearl back? Answer: No one.

It would be a waaaaaay bigger step back to try to keep Pearl through the show cause order that he IS going to receive without doubt.

Add to the fact that its very arguable who the better coach is. But it doesn't matter anyway - a coach of his caliber is NOT going to come to coach UT with all the crap we could potentially get hit with.

If Pearl leaves gets fired or whatever. We need a young coach who is a great recruiter. As long as Calapari is at Kentucky we have to keep up. Need a coach who has a clean record. After this crap the NCAA will be keeping a close eye on Tennessee.

Ok this is not directed at you specifically but so many people who believe that just because Bruce Pearl leaves the program will be in the tank again. Bruce Pearl is not the best coach in the country, quit acting like he is, yes he has done A TON for the basketball program but anyone can be replaced. No, i'm not a Bruce Pearl fan but i do respect what he has done and he has made it easier on his successor (Anthony Grant Please). Tennessee is now a proven winner with top of the line facilities, they will be able to attract a good coach and good recruits (legally). So please to anyone who thinks the basketball program is done, STOP. He is not a good X's and O's coach. Period. Yes he can recruit and if I to have one coach when i needed to motivate my team Pearl would be on the top of my list cause he thrives in the underdog role but when it comes down to straight coaching and end of game scenarios he is not good at all. Tennessee basketball will stay strong for a long time, just relax.

Pearl has his shortcomings, on the court and off, there is no arguing that fact. However, another fact that can't be argued is that for all these things, no coach in the history of this program has had even half of the success that Pearl has. That's got to count for something.

I would argue that Don Devoe had half the succes. He put us in a constricted tourney 5 years straight. Secondly, I believe that Pearl through his actions has negated many of the positives he has brought to this program.

Moeny talks, and I believe he is on their short list.

It will be interesting, I think he's signed like a 7 year extension after UGA made a run at him and is making around a total of 2.2 million. Whose going to step up?

He took over programs from the likes of Murry Bartow and Quinn Snyder and turned them into consistant 'AA tournament teams. After getting rid of the filth that Snyder brought in, he has done a commendable job at Mizzou. He's well regarded in the coaching community. Hell, he took UAB to the sweet sixteen.

Pulled a couple major upsets in the process. UK as the #1 overall, IIRC.

Not sure if Anderson is the answer, but his teams are fun to watch.

I think it'll make a difference depending on if MH or another AD is making the hire.

This question is moot because UT has no chance with CMA; neither does Arky.

Here is a list of the schools that have offered CMA since he has been the head coach at Mizzou:

Alabama
Georgia
Memphis
Oregon

Therefore, after turning those jobs down, why would he all of a sudden jump to come to Knoxville? I'm sorry but if he were coming to the SEC, he would have taken the Bama/UGa jobs.

Arky is not of interest to him because of the way they departed with Nolan. Very ugly, and he was an assistant. Further, he played at Tulsa, and was merely an assistant at Arky. Therefore, its not like its his alma matter.

Additionally, the Pressey brothers ACTUALLY call CMA "Uncle Mike." They literally view each other as family. I don't forsee CMA ditching those boys for Arky/Tenn.

Now, another interesting fact is that Mizzou basketball has not been a "stepping stone" for coaches in 80 some odd years. Literally, the last time the MU head basketball coach left for another job was in the 1920's.

As a MU fan, I have not been head over heals about CMA's results. We have trouble recruiting big, marque athletes. We cannot beat KU, and we have a very hard time winning on the road. However, I am cautiously optimistic about the stability he offers and the type of program he runs, and think that he has the potential to catch lightning in the bottle occasionally come tournament time.

Where would you go if you were Mike Anderson, Tennessee or Arkansas?

I say arkansas as he intrviewed here before and did not get the job. Many coaches egos wont let them go to a school when they were overlooked in a prior opening at said school.

Should we expect to get a step-up, necessarily? We'll be on probation and probably a 1-2 year postseason ban..

So funny. Not a chance of that happening.

Seems most posters are dodging the question. I guess that impressive 8-8 record in Anderson's fifth season speaks for itself.

No, I asked in my original post... was told the Big 12 has superior competition than the SEC... so i'm assuming most think that 8-8 Big 12 record would have been 13-3 in the SEC

I think if you had a larger font and more exclamations your point would be stronger.

Just another reason why we should keep Pearl. We will not be able to hire a coach as good as Pearl and he has learned a valuable lesson. I hope Pearl is our coach for the next ten years.

Got to the point where I can't tell when people are just being sarcastic or expressing their Voltardness.

About as much as Pearl's awesome 8-8 in his sixth year in a sewer league like the SEC does.
