Why Oklahoma REALLY fired Josh Heupel According To longtime OU reporter John Hoover..

IMHO the relationship between DW & CJH is what brought him here and will keep him here..Unlike the clown coaches before him, CJH realizes just how much of a sleeping giant the Vols have been,,The freedom to control most everything football doesn't hurt either..Kitten, Doofus, Jonesy & Cornbread either didn't realize that or just flat out didn't care..Or couldn't take advantage of the ABUNDANT & Endless resources that the HC at Tennessee could command..I think he is quite content and able to lead UT back to greatness and maintain it at a level the Vols have never experienced..I could be mistaken but I don't think so..Enjoy the ride because I think the Vols are in great hands & will be for a LONG time....

No he was fired at Arizona in 2011 and Bob brought him back to co-DC with Venables. Venables having been DC by himself for several years wasn’t happy. He was also unhappy that Bob fired his secondary coach Willie Martinez who was undeserving of it but Bob was going to make room for his brother. Dabo came calling with a much better salary which OU matched but Brent wanted out.
Thanks for the response. I couldn’t remember when he took that job. I didn’t really realize that Martinez had coached at OU. At this point I think Willie might’ve coached at more SEC teams than he hasn’t .

My opinion:

A great coach is one who can recruit, coach, and motivate his players. It's extremely rare for a coach to be able to do all three well. By recruit, I mean to recognize how well a player fits your system and how well they could be developed, not just based on stars or raw statistics.

Pat Summit was good recruiter and a great motivator, and she won NCs by out-hustling teams with raw talent. However she would get out-coached at times. Fulmer was a great recruiter but not a great coach. Nick Saban, Geno Auriemma, Dawn Staley, Pete Carroll, are coaches who come to mind who all three things well.

My point is, it doesn't matter how much resources you have; if you don't have the abilities I mentioned you're not going to go far. Heupel is demonstrating he can do all three things well, including hiring the staff who share his vision (Banks).

Heupel has had a long journey going from Junior College QB, to leading OK to a NATTY, to getting hired and fired by his almamater, to ultimately the success he is finding at UT.

I BELIEVE this was part of God's plan for Josh.
Love your sentiment. However, God doesn't care about football. He's in the business of reconciling mankind from the mess Adam and Eve made of the relationship with Him. Just the same, I'm glad we got the Heup to Tennessee. And hope for another 71-0 game against the claim jumpers.

Bob wanted a read option offense, but Heupel's DNA was Air Raid. Heupel struggled to produce what Bob want, so Bob fired him and hired Lincoln Riley, who installed the Air Raid.
That 2014 OU team couldn't stop anyone from scoring. The offense in most games put up enough points to win but the defense couldn't stop a trash bag from blowing through their DL.

The real TL/DR is Bob Stoops allowed Heupel to fall on the sword instead of firing his brother Mike Stoops that was the defensive coordinator.

Heupel is a genuine guy, so he will talk great about his time at OU, but you have to be naive to think he won't keep his foot on the gas until the clock strikes 0 in the fourth quarter of this one. Now you have OU sports talk show hosts saying this below.

I enjoy Dave Hooker's You Tube segments and found this one particularly interesting..I feel like the Lincoln Riley hiring was a huge slap in CJH's face..I hope y'all enjoy..Here's the link:

Thanks for posting. Living here in chatt Hooker is my favorite. Years ago I disliked him thinking he always came across negative. But in recent years I think he’s swung toward a glass half full guy. And I think a lot of that is likely because we can all tell the trajectory is headed in the right direction. Only thing I’d say about the interview is the question about trading Venables for hyper and the majority of the fan base saying they’ll stick with Venables. Two thoughts on that… For one, I doubt very seriously that is the case. I’ve read comments on message boards, and Twitter regarding the subject, and it feels at least half think they have the wrong coach on their sidelines. Secondly, the question really should be asked after the game when they have just competed head to head. Over at the end of the season. Things can always change but I have a feeling the 2 programs are heading in opposite directions. Regardless, thanks for posting. I enjoyed the interview

And now Heupel is going to destroy Brent Venables with that offense 😂😂😂 poor Brent gonna take the beating that Bob deserved.

Damn. There are so many common threads between staff changes at OU and Tennessee. I mean obviously I knew Heupel but there’s quite a few ties between the two programs

What he appealed (and won) was a reversal of the old NCAA rule that governed both scholarship and walk-ons transferring without permission from the previous team losing TWO seasons. His appeal got that rule changed for walk-ons.
Now THAT is real info there. And at the time, a fairly big ruling. Good on you Butchna

Pretty much and his brother Mike Stoops in charge of the defense. But the offense was underperforming for our standards. Do I personally think Josh deserved to be fired? I do not. But it was struggling from what was customary but it was also related to average QB play.
RZ, no one really enjoys being fired, let go, encouraged to leave, etc... All of us want to have available to us all options on the table when contemplating our career futures. But some times, perhaps much of the time, things just work out best - regardless. CJH may not have grown and aspired to his current level without the painful parting at Oklahoma. In fact, I would think his growth perhaps accelerated with the dismissal, but who knows? No one can view the alternate universe of choices not made.

"No one can view the alternate universe of choices not made"? Lord, where did that come from? May have to copyright that one. LOL
