Why playing in Athens may not matter (as much)

It's more than playcalls. It's the line making combo calls/ID'ing the Mike, false starts, delay of games, trying to audible, etc.

IF it's loud, those are the issues it creates. I've never heard UGA be that loud so I'm not that worried about but maybe someone else has a different perspective on Sanford Stadium than me.

KIRBY seems a little Scared???? Wow. You know Heupel has shared that with the Team! LOL
You know... I bet he hasn't. Heupel's thing is all about ignoring the distractions and focusing on what you control. Doesn't seem like something he would encourage. Ignore Kirby, go execute your play perfectly.

I could be wrong... it happens lol.

Was thinking about how much difference it makes to play a home game vs away. Certainly, it has mattered for Alabama in Neyland. I am convinced they made so many mistakes because they couldnt hear themselves in the huddle or at the LOS. The bookies even bake 3 points or so into the game for the home team.

This is the knock I hear a good number say against us - that we have had all these wins at home but we will not be so great on the road. I think its also why people believe somehow that we havent really been tested yet. Yes but when you beat Florida, when you beat LSU, when you beat Alabubba, you need a win against a top team on the road. It's always something. At some point though they, and we fans too, will run out of excuses. This Saturday will be the last wall of resistance.

So that got me thinking. How much advantage does the home team still have in a raucous stadium like we will no doubt be in on Saturday - when the visiting team doesn't actually huddle? When they get their signals by looking at huge flags on the sidelines?

Sure, they have the benefit of not having the loudness when THEY are in the huddle nor do they have the pressure of so many people there just lusting for your destruction (and its a real, palpable thing) so there is that in their favor.

But for Heupel's offense, I think the way that they call it may take away at least a portion of the advantage of noise. Granted, I know we do a LOT of quick adjustments on the line but our guys are used to lining up and doing things so fast all of that has to be pre-set mostly but I don't know.

Does the no huddle remove the or reduce the home team's advantage when we play on the road? Maybe the true football minds here can better elucidate.

If UT drops a couple of quick TD's on them, the fans will get a lot quieter.

I say we hear Rocky Top over the (f)UGA(ly)'s by the 3rd qtr....

Guys....
Ga is not going to have 18 penalties...
Ga is going to have home field advantage aka crowd noise.
We haven't proven much of anything on the road this year. Pitt win late and we see now that Pitt isn't all that in a weak ACC. Whipped LSU's ass before they figured out that special teams exist.
Ga scores almost as many pts as we do
Ga gives up a lot less pts than we do

it's not gonna be a cake walk. We can win and byGoc I hope we do! But some of y'all need might be overshooting the moon on some predictions in this here thread.
Agree. Great team, great environment and we will need great effort.

""here's a high probability we will be just as loud for UGA at UGA as they will be for us. I don't think playing on the road there will be as big a factor as going to Bama, LSU, UF or a few select others.""

UHHHH, so you are saying GA has no homefield advantage with their crowd....??? Are you drunk??
No. I'm just saying our road crowd will be every bit as measurable as their home crowd. At a fraction of the size. No one can dispute what UT brings to the game when our travelling fan base rolls into town. That's one reason they have always been a popular bowl game selection. Whoever gets UT in their bowl game, gets a large travelling fan base, and alot of noise.

We have proven that we can close games out and haven't lost. We've proven you don't want us to have the ball last. We've proven the luck we needed in 98 to go undefeated and win a natty hasn't changed all that much if you want to di it again. (See Arky game 1998). There's alot that goes into making it thru a natty undefeated, or with 1 loss. Unless you're Alabama, most would not have won a title without a good dose of luck throughout the season. And they occasionally still need some luck.

Yes, they have done both those, albeit against a FAR inferior strength of schedule that UT has this year.

UT's SEC schedule thus far has been VERY difficult.

UGA has played Vandy, Florida, Mizzouri, S. Carolina., Auburn.

UT has played Florida, LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, AND Pitt.

Comparing the 2 schedules, UT is far more battle tested right now.

Our defense plays exponentially better against non dual threat qbs. Bennett has proven he can win big games but I would still rather go against him than Bryce Young or equivalent.

This is true. We communicate damn near the entire offense non verbally.

Not to mention there are several analysts that feed The HC/OC and play results already have play calls worked out 2-3 plays away. THey process so much info in such a small window of time they work play calls several plays out. That was one of the big second half topics in the booth during the KY game. There was nothing to really discuss anymore about the game itself.

Getting off to a fast start like LSU and Alabama will affect the crowd noise. It hushed things at LSU and turned Neyland into an asylum.

Take the wind out of their sails early and put that nagging doubt about winning in their heads with a quick start.

Kirby can tweet all he wants 6 days prior to the game, it won't matter on Saturday.

But, he can still be dangerous on his feet. He's not a pure pocket passer by any means.

We had an old saying in our golfing group a minute or two back. We don't take no pictures, we just write down the score.

True but I don't fear him for a homerun threat for right or wrong. Linebackers should be able to cover him.
