Why raise taxes on anyone?

What does tithing have to do with tax policy? I could care less if Biden doesn't give to his church.
When someone, who has power over tax policy, is telling me that paying taxes is "patriotic" because it helps my "less fortunate" citizens, then I feel that his personal giving is my business.

I get his point, I just don't think it is a very good one. Paying taxes and giving to charity are not the same thing, despite what many around here think of Obama's tax plan. Also, isn't tithing a personal matter? How does this guy know that Biden doesn't give to his church or other charities?
You are correct, in theory. Taxes should be used for trade and defense. Charity should be used to help those who are struggling on a daily basis to survive. Notice, I emphasize "struggling". I do this because those who sit around and wait for their monthly welfare check are not struggling, they are being lazy.

As for how we know about his giving...he released his tax returns to the public.

I would even go as far as admitting that, as accused its a redistribution of wealth, class warfare.

Which is fair sense W. wiped out the middle class in 8 years.:good!:
He did? :dunno:

When did the middle class get wiped out? That's funny my family would be considered in the mid to lower part of that range and I totally missed us getting wiped out!

Go peddle untruthful talking points elsewhere because this middle class guy isn't buying!
KB, you heard the Democrat. We're wiped out. No need in bothering to show up for work Monday.

Maybe Lil' Hussein will save us. :whistling:

Really, yet you still vote for the likes of Bush or McCain? Strange, but whatever.

I have seen no negative effects as far as my pockets go. While I'm sure some have felt the pinch a little, I believe the vast majority have experienced a "wipe out" in their mind only.

I am kind of scratching my head a little bit at why McCain keeps referring to the Obama tax plan as "spreading the wealth."

First, all tax modifications in one way or another amount to redistributing wealth. Why wasn't it redistributing wealth when Bush got his tax breaks through for the top wage earners? McCain voted for that. That's taking a little more from the middle and bottom earners and letting the top keep a bit more than they otherwise would have.

Second, I question whether making this claim is having the impact he hopes it does. Most people making a quarter of a million a year right now are going to vote for McCain, anyway. Not all. But most. So I fail to see how reminding those millions pissed off right now at the corporate chiefs making millions and millions every year while they have less and less are going to be persuaded to vote against Obama for threatening to tax the corporate chiefs more, and the pissed off millions, less.

Argue what you want about what is and is not sound economic strategy. But in terms of election politics I'm not getting the allure of reminding the undecided folks -- almost all of whom would personally benefit from Obama's plan - about that very fact.

not on a % basis.

tax breaks are not redistro. It is allowing people to keep more of what they've rightfully earned.

Taking what people have earned and giving it to those who didn't earn it is redistro. McCain's plan says nothing of taking from one group to help the others out. Obama specifically stated that he believes in redistro. Any other election in our history, and that would have doomed a candidate.
