Why the Florida Game Doesn't Really Matter

Wow so now our standards are after 3 more years we can compete with the Kentucky’s and vandys of the world and perhaps start getting some moral victories against the bamas and georgias of the world. I get GA left smart a better situation but let’s not forget we are barely a year removed from competing and beating Georgia our fair share, Kirby has come in and made them elite pretty much overnight... I’m not expecting that here but it’s to much to expect that in 3 years we could possibly be competing with them again? Get out of here with that garbage.

So He is not allowed to state His opinion but you can. So funny.

Why? Why can Kirby recruit like gangbusters and CJP cant?

If we arent competing with UGA in season three of this regime we likely arent going to be anytime soon.
We want be and I don't see how anyone thinks we will with the orange glasses off. I believe CJP is the right guy but Georgia is on another level right this minute AND they're recruiting at an unbelievable level. CJP has to out recruit him to even catch up. The gap will be even bigger next year. I think we will get back to being a 8-9 win team but I don't see being sec champs in several years much less competing for Natty's.

As far as the Florida game, it matters, always has and always will. We desperately need to get this win to instill confidence and make a bowl.

The issue is likely the wording of that this game doesn't matter which is idiotic. Every win that helps get us to 6 wins or more very much matters. It matters for the future of the program. The last thing you want as a UT fan is UF somehow managing to load up with 5*'s again. That is a very high possibility with FSU looking like a pee wee team.

Nope he can state it. Of course it wasn’t just an opinion he was telling everyone else what they should think and basically to just give up on ever being relevant, I’m simply stating why I would disagree with it. Learn to not only read, but to comprehend what your reading.

Don’t bother trying to explain man some people are just so dense.

Regardless of the outcome Saturday, we're talking about a couple of less than mediocre teams. Unless JG turns into a transcendent talent, we're looking at a couple more mediocre years, at best. By 2020, maybe we got the Jimmys and Joes to stay within a couple scores if Bama and GA, but I am not holding my breath. On the bright side, maybe we'll he back to a place where we don't gave to sweat the Vandy, Mizzou and Ky. Which is pretty much where we should be on average. I will close by saying just enjoy the FL game for what it is. If we lose, it doesn't mean CJP isn't the guy. If by 2020, he doesn't have us to where I eluded to earlier then you can make that argument. But for now, we just have realize it's going to be 2yrs before we are going to be a second tier SEC team.
Another ridiculous thread start, there are many good reasons this is a important game. From the excitement of winning a conference game to recruiting ramifications to the players confidence of learning how to win and also being one to step closer to bowl eligibility. Every game means something and that's as far as I am going to get into it. As a fan I like to be optimistic and go one game at a time. But make no mistake winning the Florida game is important, it might not be to you or others but to the vast majority of Tennessee fans is very dadgum important. GBO!!!!!

Why it matters: recruiting. There are several traditional powers in our region that are suffering the same primary problem as the Vols...a dearth of elite OL and we're all fighting for the scraps that UGA, Bama and Clemson leave behind. There are fish on our hooks but they're not in the boat yet. We have to win as many winnable games as we can or we risk losing the class.

I know what I said, think about what you said... you said yourself look at the difference one year makes... exactly!!! So why in 3 years time should we still expect to be mediocre at best and not even thinking about beating UGA? Georgia as an institution in football is comparable to us... they have better in state talent, however facilities and resources are roughly the same, and quite frankly we have more tradition... the big difference right now between us and them is they found THE GUY. It’s really that simple. I’ll give Pruitt time but it’s usually very obvious by year two if you have found THE GUY or not. I swear I think some posters on this board are moles sent to post by the UT admin to try and brainwash this community into thinking they don’t deserve anything. There can’t be this many people simply content with sucking forever that are true vol fans.

Not that I don't agree. I do! however; THE GUY is not found .......THE GUY doesn't want to come to UT. THE GUY wasn't knocking when we were offering everyone with a head and a pair of legs last year ! Fire away !

Florida is in a very similar place as us. This is going to be our barometer game this year and for the next few years at least. This game in particular is probably going to be a turning point for both programs. We're probably going to lose the next 4 after this. Losing to UF probably means 3 or 4 wins this year. Nationally it's not important. But to UT and UF it's life and death.

Biggest game of the year. If we win and the fans are going crazy than it will influence how we do in the future because of recruiting.

No Orange colored glasses here. None in the color of Pruitt either.

There is zero reason with coaching and recruiting that we cant win the SEC in three years. If we cant do it in year three what makes you think year 5-10 will be different?

You're a solid poster, but you fell off the apple cart with this one...

The Florida game matters. It always matters. Even when it doesn't matter.

Go Vols.

If only there was a ban button on here for each member to push “in emergency situations”. The OP would get it.

It's Tennessee and Florida. I don't care how good or bad the respective teams may be, this game matters and it always will. In fact this is our best chance for a win against a team that at least has a tendency to be good even if they aren't currently worth a crap.

Stupid thought fo the real world. Every game matters in regard to success driven programs. In the the realm of what's important in life no it's not. Good grief.
