Why Trump Covers for Russian Cyber Attacks

Who the F are you?.... Mr. Russian Economist or something? Please tell us about the signs of imminent collapse prior to 1980.....
No, I'm just someone who likes to read. I recommend the "The Final Fall: An essay on the decomposition of the Soviet sphere" written by French economist Emmanuel Todd in 1976.

This famous passage in particular:

"First we see a visible decline in the rate of growth, then its complete stagnation. We have a drawn-out, deepening and almost insurmountable crisis in agriculture. This is a terrifying sign of a union so much in crisis, that it is no longer an actual union at all. A union requires common purpose and a commitment to work together. That is not the USSR in its current configuration. "

They were beyond broke even before Reagan got elected. Gorbachev got into office and tried to establish a bunch of free trade zones (peristroika) based off China’s experiments with Shanghai, Shenzhen, etc. but received no support from the party.

Yes they were broke. Imagine if they weren’t trying to keep up with us in armament? They might not have broken as soon.

The Soviet Union fell, but the remnants continue to be an issue. So much bribery and corruption.

But the vodka is good.

Incredible! You're viewing world history through the eyes of a Frenchy and and economist to boot. Takes balls to go out on that limb or an absolute failure of the gray matter. I'm going with number 2 - zombie liberalism.

Nope. Don't need to - falls into the category of literary piling on. When there is no "common purpose and a commitment to work together", there can be no lasting union because the people realize they've been duped by the ruling class. When you basically treat people as animal labor, they will begin to notice that some animals are better than others and the poorer ones have no way to improve their lot. The only thing that kept things together as long as it did was the fear factor - that some people would turn in others as a way of getting favored treatment. What kept the Soviet Union a world power was its military strength, and the cost of the military strength was "starvation" (not always literal) of the country and its people. The people on agricultural collectives had no incentive - why should they grow crops for others - that was a crisis of intellect by the founders of socialism not of agriculture.
