Why we hate Vandy

Vandymania is fun to read after their losses. It only takes about 5 minutes cause only about 10 posters are there. One vandy message board poster claims that JJJ pinned the ball while it was going down on the shot he blocked in the first half. Replay showed it clearly wasnt pinned against the board and it wasnt going down. Several posters agree with him but one did not and that guy got roasted. Refs reviewed it and did not grant goal tending but vandies still seeing world thru their gold tinted glasses....

I remember Nashvilles most powerful radio station used to be a Vol station. 50k watt WLAC...1510 am. WSM 650 am is a 50k watt station as well but.... I could get it in Northern Illinois...Wisconsin...anywhere at night. Vols calls etc. Then at some point they became a Vandy station. Makes sense since that's Nashvilles hometown team...but Vols fans..media etc dominated Nashville.
I miss the days of laying on the bed as a kid listening to baseball games on the radio with my brother. Then years later we would cruise our little town listening to WLAC at night and Spider-Man Harris. I really think we enjoyed listening to games on the radio as much as we do now watching on TV. WLAC was powerful at night back then.

They don't have a lot of fans to recruit from to start with but the board administrator for a long time was quick with the ban hammer for anyone who didn't toe the line. It looks like they're easy more permissive with coaching criticism by now, wonder if it's less about a change in policy or more about the admins agreeing.

Those of us here in Middle Tennessee hate Vandy because they like to pretend that this isn’t Big Orange Country. It is. Whether they like it or not. We show it every time we take over Memorial, Nissan Stadium, Bridgestone, and whatever Dudley Field is called now. And we show it when we take the top recruits in the midstate, including a 5* QB whose namesake grandfather was Vandy’s football coach, but still grew up a Vol fan.

This is our state. All of it.

Their fans around me in Memorial were on the sub-idiot spectrum…. They’re typically so bad they’re intolerable. Me and my friend discussed boxing ears more than once

The commodedoors have been stealing for years. It matters not that it is part of the founding membership. They are a bunch of woke idiots who should be put in a lesser conference where they would make the amount of money that they really deserve.

My hate for Vandy started Monday night, January 30, 1978, the game was being played really late at Memorial Gymnasium.

Was listening to John Ward call the game on the radio. I was already supposed to be asleep because I had school the next morning.
We were leading by a big margin after the first half, but Vandy was creeping back. Close to the end of the game the Vols were still leading but the game had to be stopped multiple times because Vandy fans were throwing oranges on to the court, and every time it took awhile to clean it up, not a few oranges but tons. You could hear the disgust in John Wards voice. Finally the game ended on a half court shot as time ran out by Bert Bertelkamp but it wasn’t enough,Tennessee lost 55-56, (today that shot would have been worth 3 points instead of 2.)

That was the interim year with Cliff Wettig as acting HC between Mears and Devoe.

Rodney Woods would have flung an orange or 2 back at the students if he hadn’t run out of eligibility 3 years prior.

My hate for them started at a football game in 2006. God, their fans were awful.

I've only been back once. Basketball game in 2012. One of Martin's underachieving teams. They beat us by 15 or so. About half of their fans were doing the typical bragging about their superior intellect. The others were in the stands doing homework.

Wife refuses to ever go back.

Hate is a strong word. One I do not apply to opposing sports teams. Strong dis-like is more fitting ( FL, KY, etc).

Stallings is a first class jerk. I knew parents at BA that played with his son & said KS was a jerk.

KS was thrown out of several youth baseball games back in the day.
Saw him a few years back at California Pizza Kitchen in Cool Springs and he was a dick to the host about having to wait for a table. He didn’t drop the you know who I am but he exuded it and I’m thinking to myself, no, this 17 yr old girl doesn’t know who you are neither does 85% of the restaurant.
