Two words - inconsistent shooting

They were good when they were good but REALLY bad when they were bad. Golden needs glasses imo, because he was horrible at times and we lost those games. We belong in the NIT.

They do have to play their conference games don't they? In the same way Memphis has to play their conference games?

The fact that we're comparing UT and MTSU resumes says something, no?

The SEC was down, it's not like beating UGA at home is a crazy thought. We didn't handle our business.

Their OOC is ranked 6th. They played Ole Miss, Fla., Belmont, and Vandy. How is that better than Georgetown, OSU, Virginia, and Wichita St.?

I agree that we have ourselves to blame, but that 9 of 10 streak had me thinking we were in. I do think that UT should've gotten in over mtsu, but I'm not gonna dwell on it. Good for them.

You don't get what I'm saying. We can't change our conference. It's gonna be tough but how many of those ooc teams did they beat? We might as well play cupcakes in ooc to pad our wins for when conference play starts just like playing in the sunbelt pads their wins.

They beat ole miss and Vandy. I was just simply comparing our OOCs not really a statement about your point. Sorry for confusion. I get your point. I still don't understand how their OOC is 6th.

Nothing about MTSU getting in and is getting snubbed makes sense.

The committee made a bad decision to include MTSU. The message they sent is that playing and winning in a lousy conference is fine so long as you schedule tough teams OOC, regardless whether you win. They got more credit for losing to good teams than Tennessee got for beating good teams because they padded their win column with conference cupcakes.

The fact that he used the Ole Miss sweep and the no huge wins as their criteria just proves to me that the committee is nothing but a bunch of utter buffoons. They would be better served pulling teams out of a hat than trying to pick who they think should be in the tournament.

Agree. It's just a bunch of old men guessing (and playing a political game, like you said in the other thread).

I mean, that sounds bitter because we missed out, but that's only part of the story. I honestly and truly have no problem with the fact that we were left out. We shouldn't have lost twice to Georgia, we should have ****ing beat Bama in the tourney. That was our chance to seal the deal.

My problem lies in their reasoning. If you're going to pick one team over another, be prepared to back it up in an interview. The reasons given in the interview were completely invalid and made no sense. We didn't beat anyone over the final stretch? Well, Florida would tell you otherwise. So would Missouri. They're looking at quality road wins? Who did MTSU beat on the road exactly?

When he gave that interview and gave the reasons he did, that was when I realized that the selection committee is what you said they are. A bunch of idiots guessing.

They caved to pressure from the past where they heard that the committee had shunned mid-majors. Now all of a sudden it's trendy to pick mid-majors because there's a story behind every lil ol' school! That's what makes March Madness so great! The mid-majors no one has ever heard about!!

It's beyond comical to see them contradict themselves in a live interview when put on the spot. They're clueless. I'd rather the committee be made up of a bunch of retired coaches who actually know the game and watch the games instead of primarily AD types that play politics. Coaches would pick favorites too, but I'd rather have someone who actually coached the game. Anytime there is a human element there is going to be a bias. Period.

Yes but as you said I could handle bias from coaches as opposed to a committee of guys who probably have no experience in the sport. The bias of coaches would balance itself out, one would think. I was just coming to terms with the fact we'd been left out when I heard that interview. Then I was PISSED.

But honestly your first paragraph is right on the money. They've done a total 180 from where they were 3-4 years ago. Now they feel like they have to put every mid-major team in the tourney, because of how cute they are and how those kids have overcome so much and they can play with the big boys. As if mighty SEC Tennessee doesn't have kids playing their asses off trying to get in too. I agreed that mid-majors needed more love, but now they are going overboard.

Every single ****ing team from the last 4 in is a mid-major. That's a ****ing joke. Seriously. Not one BCS school. Absurd.

As a lifelong Vol fan and an mtsu student/fan, I see no problem with MTSU making it into the tourney. They were the regular season conference champions. Maybe, just maybe, that's why the selection committee gave them the nod. Besides, MTSU is not to blame for UT not making it in. They had several bad losses throughout the season. I wish the VOls could have gotten in, but I'm not upset about it beacuse they could have and should have played better throughout the entire season. I'm still proud of how the Vols kept fighting throughout the end of the season, though. Hopefully next season we will be better.
