Why we need to support Martin

That's like using 4 different pronouns in one sentence without clarifying which one goes to what noun.

With who or what would you have associated the pronouns "he" or "himself" other than Martin and "they", "their" or "them" other than the team?

I think they underachieved in the first half to 2/3rds of the last three seasons. For whatever reason, CCM doesn't seem to bring the sense of urgency to the team until their backs are against the wall. I don't know if he doesn't have the sense of urgency himself or if he has some fear of burning them out too early. Whatever the reason, there was no excuse for it this year with a veteran team. He really has to fix that tendency if he wants to be a good head coach.

The analogy

Your head.

The comment was about the description of the .500 being in the next paragraph instead of with the .500, much like how you're supposed work with pronouns. Nothing in what I said refers to the pronouns in the long post.

You certainly don't. Your right. But if he does succeed, don't jump right back on because we won't let you.

It's easy to be a fan in the good times. It means that much more when you are a fan in the bad times.

Never said I didn't support the team, just don't like the coach!

But...but...Bruce under-achieved his last year, so Martin is awesome!!

lol! Nope, that's just what Martin had to start with. That is correct though, Bruuuuuuuuce underachieved his last year for sure. I'm glad I got at least one of you to admit it. He sure as hell did. Had a totally legit NBA player and one close to it and....epic fail. But if you have a moment I'd like to point out his biggest mistakes. He had McRae, Maymon, Golden, Hall on his roster but he made sure he got his boy out there for serious minutes. Those three guys were obviously needed for the next year. Pearl had Goins and his 7 ppg playing PG over Golden? He didn't develop Maymon or McRae....why again? You recruit these guys and then you sit them? Maybe this is all why he had a dismal last year and didn't deserve the NCAAT...barely deserved the NIT. Left in SHAME!!!!!!

I don't pretend to know what goes on with the practices and dynamics at play with our current team, or any of CBP's teams because I am not on staff. I'm guessing that's the case with you as well. Do the players you reference have more upside than Pearl or Goins? Of course. Did they bring it in practice everyday and 'earn' their spot? I have no idea.

Whether or not they deserved the NCAA doesn't matter...they made it. Hate CBP all you want, but the reality is he took this program to heights it had never seen before. Did he cheat? Sure. Did he lie? Sure. Show me a college bball coach that hasn't. Only difference is most haven't been caught.

That being said, hope the Vols win today and go as far as they can this year. As another poster said earlier, hopefully a strong finish will be enough for Purdue or another school to come calling for CCM.

This is just as bad as the people that hate on Martin no matter what he does. Pearl is gone. He made a mistake and is now paying for it. But I honestly believe the guy bleeds Big Orange and it was awesome to be a Vols basketball fan while he was here. No reason to run him in the ground or try to trivialize his accomplishments just to try to make Martin look better. Martin's results need to be able stand on their own without tearing down those of Pearl. Pearl played who he played because he felt those players gave him the best chance of winning. I never saw anything that made me believe different, even playing Steven for a whopping 20 minutes or so a game.

First underlined point. Of course those guys deserved more playing time than Goins and Pearl. Anybody who's ever watched them play knows this. My point to you is your boy Pearl didn't for some reason.

Second point. They made the NCAAT but they didn't deserve it. I think they made it because Tobias was on the team and it was media related. Their record did not deserve it and Cuonzo has done better than that his first, second and soon to be third year. 9-9 in the SEC??? 8-8 to finish the year??? Even when your boy had 31 wins and won the SEC outright he didn't win the SECT. I know there's a jinx on but if he cant do it with 31 wins I want someone else who can. ******n GA won the SECT the year we had 31 freakin wins.

Golden over Goins? Maybe it's just me but I would still take Goins over Golden. And who exactly was it that Steven was playing instead of in your mind?

Edit: and the SEC Pearl Coached in was a far cry better then the SEC of 2011-2014. Not to mention with division play until last year, the East was a gauntlet during Pearl's time here.

No it isn't. The people that hate on Martin do so only because of their little agenda. Pearl PURPOSELY MADE A MISTAKE. I don't give two flips and a damn where he goes. I',m not necessarily trying to make Martin look better. It's just to easy to bring up points about Pearl that make him human, which is something you minions cant seem to grasp. In Pearls last year he SCREWED UP playing who he did. Now, do you REALLY expect me to just agree with what you say? I don't give a crap what Pearl thought at the time...he SCREWED UP! He had better guys sitting the pine than what was playing. Unless of course you want to try to convince me that Tatum, Goins, Pearl and Williams were somehow better than Golden, Maymon, Hall and McRae. Can you LOOK at that comparison and tell me which one is better???

I'll say it a 2nd time...you have no idea who deserved playing time and who didn't, and neither do I. If you had been at every practice, then you would be qualified to make the call...otherwise, you're not.

Secondly, saying they didn't deserve to make the tourney is moot at this point. They made it. I don't give a rats a$$ why.

Smart turned us down the last time because we didn't want to pay him. It wasn't because he wasn't interested in Tennessee.

Very good point about Cheeks!!!! We were all thinking that the A.D. would not offer Pearl and that would be the reason for him not coaching at U.T. again.

You bring it from another angle. I had always assumed that if Pearl were offered, then he would accept the job. That may not be the case.

Why would he be mad at Cheek? I remember a geometry test I took in school once. The teacher was a Vandy grad. We had a test one day. I cheated. Turned out teach had different tests down each row. I learned a valuable lesson that day. Be prepared for life AND you'll never be as smart as you think you are. Pearl wasn't prepared for life even at his age and he obviously tried to outsmart himself. Wrong move!

And you don't have an agenda?

Minions? Yeah that's me.

As for the players you mentioned
McRae was suspended for part of that year and there was a guy named Hopson playing in front of him, Maymon was ineligible for part of that year and there was a guy named Harris playing in front of him. Golden was horrible as a Freshman but still played since he was the only option as backup PG and Hall's career speaks for itself.

I didn't like doing it but I gave you a like on this post. Mostly for the second paragraph. Hopefully you will try to extend that philosophy to Martin's current team should they make it in.
