No, not even close. We were definitely favored to advanced. I was a little surprised Elite 8. I will be shocked if this team makes the tournament.
Wonder what happens if we lose our next two and one in the tourney.

I'd rather just go to the NIT. We would have a better chance at advancing. We'll go out in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament this year. I'm so disappointed right now in this team.
We played over our heads for the 1st 7 games this season. We came back to reality after that. We're actually playing like a team with minimal leadership should play. We had Prince, Chism, and Maze to fall back on last year.
We don't have anybody to take over leadership. Hopson is no doubt our best player but he's not a leader. Heck, Steve Pearl is the closest player we have to a leader ad he's not a weapon. He actually plays with more heart than anybody we have. I'd take an NIT invite myself.
I see people make this claim and I have no idea how you could ever hope this. I'd rather make the NCAAT and lose by 50 in the first game than to win the NIT, and I would hope any fan would as well. I don't care how badly we've played or how bipolar we are.
Everyone likes to make ridiculous statements after every loss like "NIT" and "we might miss the tourney".
Since everyone is too lazy to do research themselves I will do it for you.

I'm all for the NCAAT. However, there's times when the team is better off going to the NIT. Sure, the big dance should be in UT's goals every single year. My point is about this particular team. We're not good enough and have no leadership to handle the NCAAT.
I think losing in the 1st-round of the NCAAT would do more harm than good by just getting into the NCAAT. We won the pre-season NIT so what's so bad about going to the NIT with this team? We have no confidence and it shows.
We have a few departing seniors but we have more younger guys. Why not take an NIT chance and possibly win it and build off of that? I don't think a one and done in the NCAAT would be best for this team. It would lead to more problems.
Get a few wins in the NIT or take it all & it would build some confidence for the players coming back next season. I think I have a very valid claim with this team. Maybe not a good theory in the past but this team doesn't need or deserve the NCAAT in my opinion.
