Why WOULDNT CUM take the Notre Dame job?

I do, two in fact to go along with this one, warchant, one for nissans and one for my truck. Don't flatter yourselves with the presence of other fans. It takes two seconds to open 5 tabs and get on multiple message boards.

how can you still be posting at warchant? i've been banned several times and mine and your posting styles are definitely different

Man, what a debate. Good stuff, guys.

IMO, it still boils down to this: money or significance.

Florida is still a high-profile gig, and Meyer is worthy of a lot of recognition of what he and Tebow have done over the last few years. I still contend Florida winning the title this year gives Meyer a run of dominance for the ages and makes Tebow arguably the best player in the history of modern college football.

But Gator fans need to get over themselves if they think that Florida is as big a prestige job as ND. Face it. In terms of national relevance, they are the Yankees. They are the Cowboys. They are the Lakers. Winning national titles at ND is a bigger deal than winning them anywhere else. Bigger than Florida, Texas, USC, Ohio State and any other program you can name. Yeah, Meyer has some recognition now. But bringing ND back from where they are is the absolute peak of the sport. Even people who haven't seen a total of 30 minutes of college football in their life will at least have some sort of recognition of your name.

That's all there is to it. If Meyer wants more greatness, he'll leave to ND. Continuing this sort of dominance in the SEC will be a bigger challenge, but won't carry as much recognition.

The money thing has been discussed ad nauseum. They can pay Charlie the rest of his millions and still have enough in the coffers to offer Meyer whatever it would take.
good post

I'm relative sure that it was on Tony Barnhart's Wed. afternoon radio show yesterday that I heard him and Doug Matthews opining that ND will open with a minimum offer of $4.5 million a year and their top end will probably be around $6 million a year. They don't think Urban will leave but they did mention that the kind of money he will be offered may be hard to turn down.

Since he is second to Neyland in wins at UT and got dominated by good coaches, that doesn't say much about your "storied" tradition.

It says more about the good ole boy network and the "he bleeds orange" fulmerites, many of whom are on this board, which allowed the sycophant to hang around, pad those stats, and water down our legacy.

a legacy that includes a National Championship, and ending a decade of losing to Bama

just gotta look at his whole career, not just the years, coaches, games etc.... that support your position

Happy Thanksgiving

Looking at his whole career, there are clearly 2 chapters:
1990’s – Excellence
2000’s - Futility

Not really sure what your point was....Voide of Reason....

UF's OOC schedule is weak this year. What does that have to do with Meyer being "successful"?

We were discussing Fulmer, not Meyer. You said that number of victories define “successful”. If Fulmer had 500 victories against teams like Charleston Southern, Troy, & FIU; and 175 losses against Alabama, them by your standards he was “successful”.

I, and I think most, would not agree.

PS - you don't know the story behind "voide of reason"; but thanks for playing.

Last I checked, Fulmer was responsible for turning around the UT-Bama series in your favor.

From what I can tell his greatest sin was losing to Spurrier, allowing UGA to make the SECCG several times after Spurrier left, and not recruiting up to par with conference foes after the 90s.

I don't deny Fulmer's time was up at UT, but you guys make it sound as though the man contributed nothing whatsoever to the program. Fulmer was a damn good coach, and Kiffin will have a harder time matching his accomplishments at UT than some of you realize.

I'd say that had more to do with guys like Dennis Franchione, Mike Dubose, Mike Shula...

Proves our point. Better coaches beat Fulmer. Fulmer could dominate inferior coaches and programs with the talent brought in by guys like Rodney Garner, but after Garner was gone, Fulmer quickly dropped UT off the map. Like it or not.

He had some nice accomplishments, but if Kiffin stays long enough, he'll at least match Fulmer's SEC titles in 6 years, and he'll probably have a national title by then, too. The difference is, he won't take off 10 years after that.

Spurrier was a legendary coach in the 90s. Fulmer owned everyone else. There's no shame in losing to one of the SEC's best.

There's no guarantee Kiffin, even with equal talent, can win consistently against Saban and Meyer. But your optimism is warranted I guess.

Can someone post the link from the Utah boards of Urbans track record of "I'm not leaving" statements before he bailed out of Utah and BGSU?

I'm surprised it hasn't made it here yet.

It's an easy cut and paste job from the FSU rivals board. They want Meyer gone more than anyone.

Well, if history is any indication, I'd say they're going to get their wish real soon. If I was near a cpu, I'd post it myself, but I'm relegated to my blackberry.

Compare the coaches in the 90's to the coaches after. Don't pretend there isn't a huge difference.

That's putting it lightly. There is really no doubt that we are going to have a ton of talent in the next few years. The fact is, Kiffin played both Saban and Meyer pretty evenly on the road with the worst team he will have. (next year may be the only exception)
