'25 WI CB Tre Poteat (Tennessee)

I rarely have insight wroth a darn but I’m from Wisconsin so I’ll chime in with a snipit.

My brother in law was a former D1 power coach and trained a few NFL players. Coached football at one of the best HS’s in Wisconsin and saw a couple pros come thru also.

He coached against Tre. Had seen highlights but hasn’t seen him in person and met him briefly and knows a guy who coaches at his school. Between his mental make up and physical skills my brother in law said “I’d be floored if he doesn’t end up an NFL player. The kid is the total package and as good of a skill position guy as I’ve coached against in a long while if not ever. He’s got SO much upside it’s nuts.”

Now grain of salt is WI doesn’t produce near the talent as down south but he has been around a handful of good D1 players and ones that made the league and is no dummy and most of all LOVES what he heard about the kid’s character, work ethic, etc. said his friend who coaches at Tre’s school said he’s super coachable and a total team player. Will do whatever anyone needs him to.

So there’s your tid bit FWIW

Funnily enough, they seem to grow a fair number of really good linebackers and cornerbacks up there in the frozen North. Kid has a name that just sounds like an elite db, too.

Two of Tennessee's Class of 2025 commitments made noticeable jumps in 247Sports' updated rankings Monday afternoon ahead of Early Signing Day. Vols linebacker/edge commitment Christian Gass of Eastside High School in Covington, Ga., and cornerback commitment Tre Poteat of Verona Area High School in Verona, Wis., both are now rated four-star prospects by 247Sports.

Poteat also was rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports before moving up as part of Monday's update, which included a number of moves outside the Top247. He's now ranked by 247Sports as the No. 40 cornerback in the 2025 class and the No. 3 senior from the state of Wisconsin.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Poteat earned a four-star rating Monday coming off an impressive senior season during which he made big plays on offense, defense and special teams on a weekly basis. He finished the year with 1,341 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns, six interceptions — two of which he returned for touchdowns — five forced fumbles, five pass breakups and a tackle for loss.
