Will 2009 be Urban's last year at UF?

he turned down the ND job and took the florida job last time around. he isn't going to ND.

At some point, he will. He's directly quoted in this interview as stating it's his "dream job" and that, one day, he'd like to be the coach there.

I know that for myself I would hate to hear my coach say that another school would be his "dream job".

Urban would get more hype at ND than he'd ever receive at Florida. With ND on a slide of 20 years or so, they'd give him the bank especially if he wins another MNC this year. You think Saban turning around Alabama created a big deal, you haven't seen nothing compared to what ND hiring Urban would bring.

Going from anywhere to Notre Dame is most def NOT a lateral move. And the expression "lateral move" is played out.:good!:

Give me another word or expression that will describe a lateral move in 2 words or less and I'll use it.

I don't buy the Notre Dame hype. They havent done anything since Holtz left. Does that make Nebraska a great job since they were dominant once?

Calculated move on his part. UF was obviously a quicker fix than ND and CUM didn't have the security and stature 5 years ago that he does now...

If you read the quote it sounds similar to the Jim Mora, Jr saga while ATL HC.... Seattle radio station discussing his love for UW.

Give him 6,

I was about to post a thread about this! I think ND kept Weis because Meyer won't leave Florida until his boy Tebow leaves and obviously he has a National Championship caliber team coming back next year. I think if Weis doesn't do better than 8-4, he'll get canned and they'll hire Urban.

Honestly I hope they do, he's a good coach and I'm sick of losing to him. I want Zook back at Florida.

When Nebraska gets an agreement to have one of the 3 major networks televise all of its home games, then those 2 jobs will be comparable.

The point is, it really doesn't matter if ND is a step up, step down, or it it's lateral to Florida. It's Meyer's "dream job." He's more personally motivated than professionally motivated to coach there.

Meyer turned down the ND job before he came to Florida and I have a really good hunch that before Weiss was aloud to return this year, ND's AD called Meyer to see if he was interested. The answer was obviously no - al la Weiss continues to be the coach. There are ulterior motives behind what Meyer is saying - Indoor practice facility, Hirer salaries for assistants, etc. He said there is no chance until his youngest son is out of H.S. he will even think about it. That is a good 8 years down the road. If he gives us 8 more years that will be a total of around 12 years or so. That is all we can ask, IMO.

Meyer and UF come back to the field when TT is gone..... Period! You know it, I know it, and CUM knows it!

If that's his dream job, it will not be a lateral move. It will be the job he's always wanted, and after winning another title at UF, he'll see a new challenge and move on! Hopefully, Charlie Strong leaves soon also, meaning all the top coaches from UF will be gone--Kiffin will dominate the SEC East after that.

It's a lateral move and Florida with match whatever he is offered. Why go and start over rebuilding a program when you can stay with your NC contender? Plus live in a state much easier to recruit with plenty of in-state talent.

I know we all want him gone, but I don't see it. NFL might intice him, but his offense probably won't work at that level.

It's not a probably in it. It won't work in the NFL. He would do worse than Spurrier if he were to go to the pros. Never even thought about him being able to make the jump.

The motive is in your avatar! When TT is gone CUM will be just another good coach in the SEC. He will consistently be in the mix with the big boys but will not have the dominant teams he has now... He will parlay this recent success with TT into the fattest contract in CFB when ND calls, whether he stays or goes!!

right and mora was gone after hard by UW and decided to stay with the seahawks. the only way meyer goes to ND is if he goes to the nfl first, fails, and then comes back to the college ranks.

I guess we didn't win a National Championship with a pocket passer in '06.

Dude, I didn't say he wasn't going to be good.... I said DOMINANT! Look closely at the '06 team, UF had a few narrow escapes and was very fortunate to even be in the NC game....

Point taken. There is a lot of luck involved as well. I realize this; however, as long as CUM is at the helm, we will always be in good contention, IMO.
