Will Cuonzo be fired following a 2nd round loss

Do people not believe in bracketology? For some reason, Tennessee is STILL in.

If I remember right, the guy picked every single team correctly last year, and only missed one the year before that, so if he says we're in, then we're pretty much in.

How did that work out for us last year, when we were projected to be one of the last teams in?

Even if these proejctions were exactly what the committee would prefer, it still doesn't work for bubble teams. These teams get pushed out because the last few spots are taken by weaker teams that pull off upsets and get automatic berths by winning their conference tournament.

Need to specify OP.

Second round is technically the round of 64, so are you saying losing in that round? Or losing in round of 32?

You are correct.

Obviously we can move out, but if on selection Sunday he says we are in, he's likely correct.

At this point, I would be surprised if we beat Miss. St. on the road Wednesday night. I can't imagine this team playing with a whole lot of confidence and fire after what happened Saturday. And that loss would officially be the final nail in the coffin of both UT's NCAA tournament chances and Cuonzo's career here.

He's not going to even make the tournament, unless he somehow makes the SEC championship game (which isn't happening).

The only thing he may make the second round of is the NIT.

I agree, I just don't see us making the tournament

If there was ever a team that "showed cause" as to why we need to hire Bruce again ..... its this one.

I don't know if Bruce can happen again at UT, but if CCM stays another year, Bruce will certainly be an opposing coach.;)

Yep. The only people who went after Bruce were the ncaa & sec opponents, so let's hope Haslam's in Cheek's ear and has a contract ready for Bruce's pen. This buzz abou Buzz rates alongside Grudenmania.

We wont be going to the NCAA, we will lose in the first round of the NIT and ZO will be looking for a new home in another state.

play in game is not the NCAAT to me unless you "play your way into the tourney by winning that game".

In the NCAA tourney? This is t asking if you will WANT him to but do you think the university will pull the trigger?

I do not think he will be fired if they make the NCAA, regardless of how they do in the tourney. I doubt he would be fired if they make the NIT, however, I would expect that he would have to make the NCAA next year or he would be fired. Don't count on him being fired this year unless they do not make either tourney.

I guess I am having a hard time understanding your logic.

I hate to disagree, but knowing this team, the only thing that will be in question for that game is the spread of a 20 or 30 point victory. It's happened like this nearly all year. After every close loss, we follow it up with a beatdown of somebody. Where we play at the level our talent should play in most of the losses. Unfortunately, we have to play after that. :-(
One thing that does bother me @ MSU is the lingering embarrassment of last seasons SECT smack down. I guarantee you their coaches replays or rehashes McCrae's 360° dunk. That could rally them.

Oh, as for the original Q. No, he will not be fired for making the round of 32. Think @ what that would mean.

We go undefeated the remaining regular season. All should be wins, but that streak will feel really good nonetheless. Then we win the SECT over the best SEC teams. If we could get in the NCAA with a loss in the SEC title game, that still means we have a victory over UK and/or UF and/or LSU and/or TAMU etc. In 2 of the 3 games to get to the final we will have won over equal or higher ranked teams.

Then we make the NCAA as about a 11/12 seed, which means we defeat a Top 20 type 4/5 seed in a huge upset. At that point, Vol Nation will have almost erased the nightmares of UTEP, TAMU, Candy, NCSU, UF, UK, MIZZ etc.
The atmosphere will be electric around here with expectations of the Sweet 16. Even w the loss to a higher seeded team, most fans will be pretty stoked @ the finish, and no way the admins spend the dough to buy out a coach w 24-25 wins.

The only way conceivable is if CBP is already agreed in kind during the season and UT could do him on the cheap, even with CCMs buyout. Even then I doubt it.
So, no.

Not happening. If Martin makes the dance, an extension comes.

I don't see that happening because the fans have turned against CCM with a passion and TBA would look like a ghost town next year. Hell they were trying to giveaway upper level seats this year and no one wanted them.

Hart knows what has to be done and Martin is gone regardless what he does.
