Will Kiffin stay at Bama?

Alabama loses a lot next year. By my count, 7 starters on defense and 5 on offense assuming Henry leaves. They have great depth but also lose quality backups as well. They will be young next year.

Much like "We cant lose to Florida this year", "bammer gonna lose a lot and will be very weak this year" is an annual point many try to make every single year. Don't kid yourself, they are going to be very good again next year, but we have closed the gap and have them at home.

He is an average OC, not sure why everyone thinks he is great. He owns some of the most notorious playcalling gaffes in CFB history

He is a qb guru but also every team he has gone too has improved their rishing offense from prior to him.
What he did to fix Jonathan Crompton to a servicable qb was nothing short of miraculous. People dont like him because he left us the way he did and some dont like his brashness. Both are understandable. But to say he isnt a good OC is not looking at results.

Crompton's stats were skewed that year by the big totals that were racked up against Western Kentucky and Memphis. His 3 picks against UCLA and his 1st half performance vs Auburn basically cost Tennessee those games. Tenn scored 17 points or less 5 separate times that year. It's hard for me to give Kiffin much credit for improvement in Crompton when quite frankly there wasn't any in games that mattered.

He rolled Georgia and South Carolina. 2 games we were dogs in. Plus that season we were in the game with #1 Florida at the time when they were massive favorites. And..... 1 fg made and we beat #1 bama. Both of those teams humiliated us every year surrounding that season.

If Will Muschamp can be hired as an HC again then Lane Kiffin probably can too. Sad world we live in here.

Henry would be a fool to stay. He has accomplished everything (I'm predicting Heisman) that he can. Why risk injury?

Alabama will have a new QB, different running back, new DC, maybe a new OC if Kiffin leaves. Lots of talent besides Henry could bolt to NFL.

Of course there is good talent still around. Ridley is scary good.

On the other hand, we've recruited well. We may be able to weather more injuries next year.

What QB doesn't put up better stats vs inferior competition? Is that really your argument?

Also, 2 of those games of 17 or less were vs Bama and UF. Two teams who gave up 11.7 and 12.4 ppg respectively and went a combined 27-1. Every OC must've sucked then by your standards.

Ha! I asked my SC coworker if he liked his hire and he took offense. He responded by saying at least they didn't hire Kiffin. I said, yeah, he kicked your a** the one year he was here. Dooley is the only coach to lose to them since Fulmer.

You won't find a single USC fan who would agree with that. His play calling at USC was laughable.

Play-calling as a HC and as an OC seems to make a difference, especially in his case. Maybe having someone else to answer to reigns in some of the stupidity he might otherwise try. He was very solid the first time around at USC and has been so at Bama as well. As HC at USC he had the same caliber of athlete at his disposal, he just had less of them due to the sanctions. I think Kiffin's energy and focus should be on offensive play calling and recruiting, and done so from a position of a coordinator. He's great at both of those when that's all he has to worry about.

Looks like the door has closed on most head coaching jobs for Kiffin so I doubt he goes anywhere in the college ranks. I bet he's feeling pretty butt hurt.

With Crompton in 2009, it was to an extreme. He had 9 TD's with 0 Int's vs Western Kentucky and Memphis but his performance vs UCLA (13-26 for 93 yards and 3 Int's) is the worst ever for a starting Tenn QB. With an even average QB, we win that game.

Should I link the UCLA box score? You guys coming to the defense of Crompton always leave that one out...and Auburn.

It's Crompton. He went from being arguably the worst QB in SEC history to a 5th-round pick in one year under Kiffin. Yes, that's higher than the Tajh Boyd this board loves so much

No one says Crompton didn't have bad games. But to act like he made a season out of 2 games only, is being more selective than anything anyone else has pointed out. We were 5-7 and blown out by Bama, UF, UGA, and USC. The next year we beat the brakes off 2 of them and gave the other 2 perhaps their toughest games, save the SECCG when they faced each other. To act like player development and on-field results weren't instantly better in 2008 than 2009 is nothing short of letting blind hatred for Kiffin get in the way. He screwed us over, it sucked at the time and its effects were felt several years after, but I don't blame him for jumping. If anyones dream job, in their de facto home area opens up and they're paying you 2x as much as your current employer you're gone yesterday too. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to take the moral high road and lying while doing so.

Ok to the people who discredit Cromptons boost from Kiffin. What about Montario Hardesty? Kiffin is a very good offensive coach. The Raiders lost a ton of games no matter the coach under Al Davis drafting. But look at where the Raiders ranked running the ball before Kiffin arrived and to his time there. He can adjust to focus on his offensive players strengths.
