Will Lady Vols Win The SEC Next Season?

The last 3 years, the SEC results have been: T4 (with 3 other teams), 5th, and T7 (with 2 other teams). The last 3 years the team is closer to middle of the pack than to 1st. Record wise, we are peers with Missouri (better SEC record last 3 years), A&M (better SEC record last 3 years) and UGA. If I were betting, I would trust USC and MSU a lot more. I think 3rd is a realistic ceiling (If things break right, maybe 2nd) with 5th or 6th a realistic floor.

I agree BOM, i think the ceiling for this upcoming team is 2nd in SEC, however more realistic that we finish around 4-5 which is about where UT has been past few years! I mean we supposedly are suppose to be a better team again depending on some freshman, when last season we were told that freshman hit a wall and thats why the finish was so bad. Makes a lot of sense for people to say that but yet think that this group will be any better! And also mlindsay, that last win the Lady Vols had against MSU, yeah Nared had 30 that game and Diamond had 20, neither of which are on the team now either, and again we have lost 4 of the last 5 against them, they are trending up while the LV are not! Once that is proven to be wrong next season so be it, but until it is this team isnt given much benefit of the doubt!

Anyone thinking I don't want the Lady Vols to win is totally wrong. I have in the past been as optimistic as any poster here. After several years with rosters full of top 20 McDonald's All Americans and less than stellar results very hard to keep believing.
I hope this year Holly can make it happen but we can't go on like this forever. I think this has to be the year she at least challenges for the conference title first or second and gets to at least the sweet sixteen.
Were a young team this season but we have enough talent with proper coaching to reach these goals. We should've done better last season not winning both games at home in NCAA is unacceptable.

He'd have 2 NC but yet he still doesn't have 1! It's easy to say what someone could've done with such and such. We've seen that over the years when we lost key players at key times.

It's easy for a program no one expects to get hot and build over time compared to those programs who everyone set out to beat. Call it what you want but teams still take pride and always get up for and give their best when they play the Lady Vols whether many of you want to believe it or not.

As stated before, rather than continue to be negative Nancy's how bout many of you disappear until the coach y'all hate so much is either replaced or wins and y'all can say I knew she could do it she just needed time and players.

Triggered.....I mean HOW DARE anyone post their opinion on a PUBLIC message board.......

Understandable and I agree it’s time to put up or shut up! I also think had we got similar play from Russell that Vic has gotten out of McCowen (who is no where near athleticly skilled as Mercedes) we could’ve potentially been a final 4 team (we definitely get pass Oregon State)

My biggesr gripes with Holly is that she is often too nice and airs on the side of caution to often!

There are 2 young ladies (imo) had she played more (even if that meant cutting into Mercedes minutes) could’ve possibly helped us as well! There were stretches 2 years ago & last year we all scratched our heads wondering why Shaquilla Nunn and Cheridene wasn’t playing/in the game when it was obvious they made things happen when they were in there

"
Many teams lost many of their best players last season"... Look at those words again and understand people are now considering that we're getting better because others are getting worse. That's not growth that is growth by proxy

That's all the Holly supporters have to bank on CJ.

And all the nincompoop Holly supporters living in their la la land can say is ... "go find another team to support" or "just disappear till Holly is gone." .... Really ? I for one am absolutely S ... I ... C ... K ... OF BEING MEDIOCRE. I just might take the disappear till Holly is gone approach and quit attending games until a COACH is in place. $eem$ like thi$ i$ the only thing that might get Phil's attention.

better question is will the LVs be competitive in each and every game in their SEC games, home and away?

Btw Which teams besides Vandy do they play twice next year?

That's all the Holly supporters have to bank on CJ.

This team has much more than that to bank on. The players that are coming in are fresh and straight from winning programs and nationally recognized events...They're coming in ready to go...NP.

I assume the returning players worked on their individual games....No, the players are the least of my worries....They'll be ready.

What I am looking for, I won't get to see until "day last" . . . . Did the coaching staff work on the things that were consistently glaring weaknesses, last season?
:
~Continuity in movement, "offensive flow"
~Weakside help on defense, both, high and low,
~Timeout usage
~Situational training,,e.g. "what to do if you dribble into the paint and it collapses on you"
~Player's on-court accountability (effort, and expectations)
~Timeout usage

I'm not worried at all about the players we will field (Even with the loss of Cedes, JN and KD)...They will come out guns a blazing just like last year...And...They will at some point hit a wall...Will they stare at the wall and get disconcerted, or, will they HULK right through it?

They might have enough talent to overcome the lack of coaching and win a down SEC next year. Still won't make the Final Four though.

Lady basketball updating from old ways need only look to methodology from the WNBA. Accepting this, and the
fact that all things change, UT women's basketball should, due to its wonderful history and past be in the betterment forefront. Great UT fans and outstanding new athletes deserve the best the new age of basketball offers. Pat strived to stay ahead of the game. It is time for more of that.

I have no idea where we will finish. I have no confidence in Holly’s coaching ability.

Can someone please tell me why every year our kids struggle against a 2-3 zone? What are the coaches doing to improve that?

What will be done to limit turnovers?

Where will our 3-point shooting come from?

Will we continue to get stuck on ball screens?

Will we look rigid and out of sync on offense?

Where will our interior scoring and defense come from?

Teams don’t magically get better. The Lady Vols have systemic issues that plague our teams each season.

You can get all the McDonald’s All-Americans in the world. But if you can’t teach them how to play the game the right way, it’s a waste.

Our teams lack pure shooters and defensive intensity, especially in the post.

I say we finish about 5th in conference and lose in the second round again.

I hear your concerns and have had some of the similar concerns.

The lack of pure shooters is one that I think can be corrected and will be if the emphasis has been put on improving there.

Our biggest issue has been Holly's belief that getting it into the post by any means necessary is the solution to victory.

I think the picking up the grad transfer brown and looking at players like Emily Saunders and Kennedy Brown (stretch 4) or Goforth who is a 3pt shooter in the 2020 class are normally players we wouldn't recruit in the past.

This would also help us beating the 2-3 we have to have someone to be able to step at the free throw line/high post and his that shot with consistency (they also must be willing to take that shot and not be told to look into the post when that shot is wide open).

The defensive intensity in the Post starts with your Post player and for the Past 4 seasons we had one (and I am not knocking her) that was more concerned with controlling how many fouls she got instead of focusing on how many shots she could send in the stands (Block shots). When there is an anchor in the middle teams are less likely to come into the Paint.

Green and KK showed (in limited time) last year that nothing easy was coming in the paint and if they didn't block the shot they were going to put you on your ass (sorry).

I am intrigued to see how the team plays without the feeling of entitlement or knowing that no one else will take their spot. We finally have a roster imo where every spot is up for grabs (or at least should be) and if you're slipping you could easily sit on the bench.

Competition is always better but when there is no competition you become complacent.

I'm willing to give Holly until the 2017 class (Rennia, Evina, KK, Annie) are seniors and if they haven't accomplished a Final Four then and the program looks like it is still stuck when it is then I will get back on board with a possible replacement.

I am atleast willing to give her that chance as I feel that class (2017) imo is truly her 1st recruiting class

Guys, Holly will always demand the ball go inside to the triple teamed center, it's who she is and always will be...So much for effectively busting the 2-3 zone.
