I have no idea where we will finish. I have no confidence in Hollys coaching ability.
Can someone please tell me why every year our kids struggle against a 2-3 zone? What are the coaches doing to improve that?
What will be done to limit turnovers?
Where will our 3-point shooting come from?
Will we continue to get stuck on ball screens?
Will we look rigid and out of sync on offense?
Where will our interior scoring and defense come from?
Teams dont magically get better. The Lady Vols have systemic issues that plague our teams each season.
You can get all the McDonalds All-Americans in the world. But if you cant teach them how to play the game the right way, its a waste.
Our teams lack pure shooters and defensive intensity, especially in the post.
I say we finish about 5th in conference and lose in the second round again.
I hear your concerns and have had some of the similar concerns.
The lack of pure shooters is one that I think can be corrected and will be if the emphasis has been put on improving there.
Our biggest issue has been Holly's belief that getting it into the post by any means necessary is the solution to victory.
I think the picking up the grad transfer brown and looking at players like Emily Saunders and Kennedy Brown (stretch 4) or Goforth who is a 3pt shooter in the 2020 class are normally players we wouldn't recruit in the past.
This would also help us beating the 2-3 we have to have someone to be able to step at the free throw line/high post and his that shot with consistency (they also must be willing to take that shot and not be told to look into the post when that shot is wide open).
The defensive intensity in the Post starts with your Post player and for the Past 4 seasons we had one (and I am not knocking her) that was more concerned with controlling how many fouls she got instead of focusing on how many shots she could send in the stands (Block shots). When there is an anchor in the middle teams are less likely to come into the Paint.
Green and KK showed (in limited time) last year that nothing easy was coming in the paint and if they didn't block the shot they were going to put you on your ass (sorry).
I am intrigued to see how the team plays without the feeling of entitlement or knowing that no one else will take their spot. We finally have a roster imo where every spot is up for grabs (or at least should be) and if you're slipping you could easily sit on the bench.
Competition is always better but when there is no competition you become complacent.
I'm willing to give Holly until the 2017 class (Rennia, Evina, KK, Annie) are seniors and if they haven't accomplished a Final Four then and the program looks like it is still stuck when it is then I will get back on board with a possible replacement.
I am atleast willing to give her that chance as I feel that class (2017) imo is truly her 1st recruiting class
