Will Marlon Walls make it?

I believe they are researching or trying to get clarification of an on line course that he took. Walls paperwork is very complicated.

And at this point I am less optimistic about Walls' arrival.

I may be wrong but do you you to Hargrave to get your grades up and in order?

Walls is coming from Hargrave.

I personally don't feel like Walls gets cleared an here is why. Edwards is practicing with the team and Walls is not. That doesn't make sense to me. Why would both of them be waiting to be cleared and only one of them is at camp? Sounds like the coaches expect Edwards to be cleared but Walls not to be. If he were to make it in, he would have so much ground to make up, it would take a while for him to get in the rotation this season. If they truly felt like the would be cleared, wouldn't he at least be in fall camp like Edwards?
Edwards has been cleared and is a go. Walls has yet to be cleared, but has the grades to be which is why he is in Knoxville (you can't practice until cleared). Which tells me that the coaches are very optimistic about Marlon. Green has little to no shot so he isn't even on campus.

Edwards was much closer to making it. It wasn't going to take as long and he pretty much had a go from the clearinghouse. Walls' situation is different. Father maintains they did everything correctly and as instructed so there should be no real issue. I think it's more of a time thing right now. It's just going to take a little while. We should know something this week though.

It sucks that the evil empire that is the NCAA is giving this kid such a hard time trying to get into school and play some ball. What is REALLY gonna suck, is if his Father is right and they did everything they were told, and still not make it through the clearing house. The "advisors" would definitely be to blame there, although, maybe Marlon needs to hit the books a little harder and he wouldnt have these grade problems. If you have this much trouble just getting in, I bet it will be a struggle for him to make the grades to stay as well.

the issue is with one of the online courses he took. They are questioning it and I'll be surprised if MW and family can cut through the questions and get a pass. They sent additional documentation over a week ago.

all of his transcripts and documentation is very complicated due to moving around so much.

I'm not expecting him to make it.. see this scenario too many times

Walls was in Memphis yesterday according to Hubbs. He left Knoxville when told he couldn't practice.

edwards was cleared last week. BUT, your premise is spot on.. staff knows outcome

If they sent him home, it doesn't take much reading into to figure out that he won't make it...

don't know they sent home. they told him he couldn't practice. he may have left when told that. I guess that would be same as telling him to go home though. He had no where to stay...

Larry:
What else could the staff do? If he doesnt get cleared, what do you see him doing?
Can he retake the class and be admitted next semester? What are his options IF he doesnt make it this fall? He clearly wants to be a Vol.

staff has done about all they can. if not cleared, he would end up at Juco somewhere unless another school takes him. other conferences allow kids to enter and sit a year, i.e. the old Prop 48. SEC does not. He might end up at Memphis or he might go to Junior College, a 2 year deal for him

What would stop him from taking another class or two to replace the ones in question?
Does he only get the one shot at the clearinghouse as an incoming frosh?

no, he could sit out of any school and try to get what is missing (I'm not certain what is missing).

Gerald Williams tried that the first year he missed and still didn't get it done. Our staff tried to encourage him to get into Junior College so as not to lose additional time but he didn't want to. Ended up taking him 3 years to get to Tennessee and then almost got bumped again.

The best bet to getting on the field sonner is Junior college. I'm betting though he enrolls at Memphis. He is wanting to play this year. His paperwork is a mess, from 2 different high schools, prep school and online courses.

You would have thought the year at Hargrave would have cleared up his issues. He was admitted into school. Just seems this would have been buttoned up a little better. I would hate to see him at Memphis.:(

This is mf'ing lame. Words can't express how frustrated I will be if Walls never plays at UT. He has special athletic ability for a guy his size and I think he could be a dominant force.

Am I the only one who feels like Walls would have a better chance of getting cleared at a media darling school like UF? I might be paranoid but I never hear much here about UF's players getting tripped up by the clearinghouse.

It just seems like UT is continually having guys with clearinghouse issues. I know it's an indictment on the type of guys Fulmer recruited but it still seems like an unusually high amount of guys that we really, really need end up not making it in after doing all that they can to get in.

I wouldn't seem so shady to me if the coaches, players and player's families didn't all feel like they had done what was needed of them.

GVX reported last night that:
Waiver For Walls: The defensive tackle pool would love to add signee Marlon Walls, who has been prevented from reporting to campus by the NCAA Clearinghouse on initial eligibility. Kiffin said UT has filed a waiver on Walls' behalf. "Hopefully they'll figure it out as soon as possible and he'll get here,'' Kiffin said.

Any thought on this and how long will that take? :dunno:

If that happens, he will never play a down at UT. That sucks because we play memphis this year. He could end up being a terror on the field, but it wouldn't be in our favor.

If he doesn't qualify for UT due to the Clearinghouse, then isn't it also true that he can't play at any D-1 school this year?

Depends on what the lowest GPA is to get into the school. UT's is 2.5, others might be lower. I think this is the case, but I'm not 100%.

No, each conference has different rules. The SEC's just seem to be more strict. It would be possible for him to enroll at Memphis...
