honest opinion. i think it will flutter at times, but that will all depend on your RB next year. i think that it wont work as well as he thinks it will, especially against UT's fast D

I think Meyers offense works sometimes but not all the time. His wide-open attack will kill slower defenses but quicker ones can in fact defend against it quite easily.

His coaching style of taking away everything of the players and so forth is ridiculous and will get tiresome after awhile

It definitely will if they dont win and may backfire on him.

Do away with the FB position in the SEC doesn't bode well.

I don't know about the Option Offense much. So I really can't give an opinon on it. I don't think, from what I have heard about it, that leak is the right man to run this offense. In a spread offense if a blitz comes you have to make a desicon fast, and makeing these types of desicons are what have got him in the past. But hey If he gets over that, they should be good. they are going to have to put up big numbers if yall are weak at secondary like you said.

His offense will struggle against like U-T said fast defenses like UT, UGA, USC,Bama,LSU, and FSU...Leak will be killed when he runs the option because teams will be looking to knock him out of the game and I do not think Leak is a tough QB.

Nothing disrupts the option, like pentration on the line...As I have said on 2 Gator boards....we have the defense to pressure the qb with the front four....they will be the difference..

But it doesn't hurt to have fast experianced linebackers either.....which we have....

It also does't hurt to have shutdown corners....that can tackle....which we have

If our safety's can come up to speed with the rest of the defense....we can be great on defense..

Yes Nc.....we will stop Meyers offense....

I have to agree with Vols4life. The toughness of Leak will be a big factor in that offense. Sorry to say it, but I don't think that he is tough enough. We will have to wait and see if he is tougher next year, but if he plays like he did in the Peach Bowl, you all might be in trouble.

Like cross said, if our DL gets the push and our secondary plays well :cross: Our linebackers are going to be making a lot of plays, and we have some good ones..

I'm not saying that UF won't have a chance by any means. It will interesting, but I don't think it's anything that our defense won't be able to handle if they play like we are all expecting them to.. :twocents:

Oh? Did those magically appear for us overnight?

I don't think Meyer will be stupid enough to try and run a full option offense against teams like us or LSU or Bama. The rest of the teams on his schedule he might be able to take with an option. Florida has enough speed on offense that I think they may be difficult to contain. Just have Mahelona and the boys pass rush about every play to put the heat on Leak and hope he makes poor decisions, because I think Florida's passing game is more than our corners can handle.

Then, of course, we will have to respond in kind with strong offense which we can do easily. Fulmer and Sanders will have things going great on offense; We are very strong at all key positions, and now just need to work on a line to anchor it all down. Couple that with a weak Florida defense and we should be alright.

Well, Allen led the SEC in tackles last year right? Hefney not only can tackle, but delivers some big time hits for his size. Fellows can tackle as well....

I am just assuming that Hefney or Fellows will be playing in the other CB role...but yeah, they can tackle..

I don't understand this notion that UT has shutdown corners that can tackle.

The DB's I watched at UT last season couldn't cover anyone nor could they tackle. Why do you think Jason Allen came back for his senior season. I will tell you why, the pro scouts told him to return and play his natural position at cornerback to increase his NFL stock.

The best pass defense at UT last season was a dropped pass by the opposition.

I do think the DB's at UT will be improved, but the secondary could very well again be a major weakness for the Vols in '05.

How do you not see us being aproved? You think hefney and fellows haven't learned anything from last year. Yeah I am so sure they have just been sitting around not reviewing anything they have done wrong.

They have worked there butts off this off season with chavis. Hefney, allen, fellows, and then we Have Morley coming in who is going to be the best out of the bunch. If they can gaurd the recivers for 4 seconds, our d-line is going to get to that qb. our defense is going to be so good. Did you see them shut down our polific offense in the orange and white game? Our view our line as our weakest point not our secondary.

Our defensive backfield sucked last season, and I'm not going to believe it's all better until I see it shut down opposing offenses.

i know one thing, if it works, espn will have to move their headquarters down to gainsville, b/c they will be talking about them so much

You mean, they will talk more about them then they already do????????

I think its impossible..................

I think the news surrounding Urban was well-deserved... He got the first team outside of a BCS conference into a BCS game, now he's moving to a big-time school. How's that not worthy of decent ratings?

According to gunner UT's DBs should play like 5 year All-Pros and them being a Freshmen doesn't matter cause they stink.

Hey gunner - Allen led the SEC in tackles big boy.

This proves my point Allen made a lot of tackles because the other DB's were missing tackles.

Let's talk about missed tackles by the DB's last season and the yards after contact by the opposition. Too bad they don't keep stats on that.

Again, I think they will be improved. But, I won't believe the problem has been solved until I see it on the field.

As far as me being disappointed, well if they play much better, I won't be disappionted, I will be very encouraged about UT's success.

What do you mean "taking away everything of the players?"

Does the QB not make many reads?

seems I always manage to arrive late at a post that brings a point I have a strong opinion on. Firstly in an option offense it is the QB that makes the reads before the snap and a good 3-5 steps after. It'll depend largely on whether the Florida QB can make these reads and smoothly execute...which since this is the plan, if it is, theyve already evauated. If this is the case it may be bad news. The Vols are great at defensive penetration and flying to the ball....also very good team speed...but fundamental tackling, and disciplined obeservation of defensive responsibilities are weaknesses the option will expose and exploit. I think the Vols defense had these weaknesses last season...and so does Urban Meyer. This being said...its all up to our defense from CPF all the way down to a 2nd string DT to decide can we defend the option.
