With the 7 Big East schools announcing they will leave the conference...does the SEC look to add one of the three remaining FBS schools? Will Butch end up seeing Cinnci yearly? Maybe South Florida? I still think with Florida State being one of the only two, to vote against raising the buy-out in the ACC, means they want to jump ship....leaving the SEC still needing one other team.

I would not mind seeing the SEC expand. I think it is only a matter of time before it does. West virginia would have been a better fit in my opinion than Missouri, but the expansions are all about expanding the conferences broadcasting area. i doubt the SEC would offer a chance to South Florida. Florida State would make good fit because of their national fanbase, but look for another school to come from North Carolina or Virginia. Ohio seems like a bit of a reach for the SEC, but geographically I think it's closer to the nearest SEC school than A&M is to the nearest.

But to reply to the thread, I wouldn't mind Fl State. If you add another team from the east, say Va Tech/ Tarheels, Clemson or Duke, You could move Mizzou to the west where they belong. Or add Texas to the West.... We all know they will add 2 more teams but they will do it for big market TV ratings. That will mean we only play 1 team from the west a year and we should never lose the bammer game from our schedule.

Go Vols!!!!!

Yes, you will see the S.E.C. expand.

What will eventually happen is that 2 more teams will be added thus making 16 teams. 8 team in the West and 8 in the East. Then those 8 teams in the West will be divided in to 2 sub-division and the East also.

The next two teams will have to come from a community in which there is a huge t.v. market, so we can get a larger ESPN, CBS, etc. contract. My guess would be a team from the D.C./Virginia area. So Virginia would be one and I would guess other to be from the Raleigh/Durham area. Both of those areas are big t.v. markets.

East West

Division I Division I

Tennessee Alabama
Missouri Auburn
Vandy LSU
Kentucky A & M

Division II

South Carolina Ole Miss
Wake/UNC/UNC State etc. Miss State
Virginia Arkansas
Florida Georgia

Then the S.E.C. East Division I winner ( U.T.) will play the S.E.C. East Divisoin II winner (Florida) and the winner will represent the East in the S.E.C. Championship game.

Then the S.E.C. West Division I winner ( O'Bama) will play the S.E.C. West Division II winner ( Georgia) to represent the S.E.C. West in the S.E.C. Champoinship game.

NC,,and NC ST. have been talking to the SEC about joining the SEC...could be good pickups..great bb schools..both made an agreement with each other wherever one goes the other will follow

I have no timeline, but I believe by the time the shuffling is done there will be only four conferences. SEC,pac?,acc.and combination of the two midwest. Or maybe we'll end up like the pros and have only two.

Texas won't move without guarantees they can keep (unshared) the revenue from their longhorn network, which is against part of the conference's rules about revenue distribution.

Essentially they wouldn't join the conference unless they were given more privileges/leeway than the average SEC team has/is allowed

Can't do it without a (pretty much special) rule being passed by the overall governing body of college athletics first (NCAA)

Best they could do without it is pretty much what the WAC did when they had 16:

To help in organizing schedules and travel for the farflung league, the members were divided into four quadrants of four teams each, as follows:

Quadrant 1 Quadrant 2 Quadrant 3 Quadrant 4
Hawaiʻi UNLV BYU Tulsa
Fresno State Air Force Utah TCU
San Diego State Colorado State New Mexico SMU
San Jose State Wyoming UTEP Rice

Quadrant one was always part of the Pacific Division, and quadrant four was always part of the Mountain Division. Quadrant two was part of the Pacific Division for 1996 and 1997 before switching to the Mountain Division in 1998, while the reverse was true for quadrant three. The scheduled fourth year of the alignment was abandoned after eight schools left to form the Mountain West Conference.

The division champions in football met from 1996 to 1998 in a championship game at Sam Boyd Stadium (also known as the Silver Bowl) in Henderson, Nevada.

Increasingly, this arrangement was not satisfactory to most of the older, pre-1990 members. Five members in particular (Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, Utah, and Wyoming) felt that WAC expansion had compromised the athletic and academic excellence of the membership. Additional concerns centered around finances, as the new league stretched from Hawaiʻi to Oklahoma and travel costs became a concern. In 1999, those five schools, along with old line WAC schools New Mexico and San Diego State, as well as newcomer UNLV, split off and formed the new Mountain West Conference.

I remember when the SEC tried to get Miami and Fla St to join just prior to USC and Arky.

Florida State, Miami, Clemson... that is about it. The Gators would fight FS and UM and SC would not like Clemson.
or maybe they could as all those Catholic schools, I hear Georgetown has a girls soccer team.

You do know that Down the Field is from Yale, right? We didn't create it, we "borrowed" it from them...

16 team super conferences are the future in my opinion. PAC-12, B1G, ACC, SEC and probably the Big 12 if they get their act together and bring more teams in by combining with like the MWC or C-USA. But for certain, the Big East is dead and not going to be missed really. Never understood why they are an AQ conference besides the fact their president was in charge of the BCS selection when it all happened. Anyway...

I could see like Clemson, VA Tech, maybe another Texas team or any number of C-USA or Sun Belt teams trying to get into the SEC. But the problem is markets and strength of programs. A&M and Mizzu at least had established and decent football programs before coming over. The SEC is big boy football and hopefully they won't just take any scrub team.

We didn't borrow nothing ... We took it. It is ours and we need to go open up a can on those using our song. :)
