Will we ever have an elite program?

No question it is better than it used to be. If you are a fan that wants no more than to be better than we used to be, we have reached utopia.

Hopson is no NBA player. Please name the 2 or 3 at that level that couldn't stop him by simply putting a hand in his direction. He is so timid with the ball.

We'll see. He's got the size, speed, vertical, and shot. And I thought this was about how Pearl can't coach em up? Huh. He's further along than V Yarbrough or Haislip were. The NBA likes talent, which Scotty's got. I guess you were one of those that saw CJ Watson as a future pro? Sure you did. It's hard to trust the 'wisdom' of someone who doesn't like the direction the Vols are headed.

OP said attendance would hurt recruiting in a earlier thread, before Tobias Harris signed! Oops! Once the season heats up after xmas so will the crowds. Fixated on attendance, ever go to a game before Pearl? (black curtains)!!! GO VOLS!!!!

^this^:good!:

This is football country and always will be. Same with Alabama and Georgia. That's why we won't ever get the coach Hatvol wants no matter how much you pay. Be glad we have a competitive program. Also our gym is freaking tough to fill, it's huge.
I guess being in "football country" explains Florida's two national titles and Texas being a fixture in the Top 10 for the last decade.

After seeing a half-full arena and about 1/3 of the student section filled last night, I couldn't help but wonder if we will ever develop an elite program with this type of fan support. The elite programs fill it up for every game. Unfortunately, the team intensity matched the crowd.

Yeah, I can personally attest to what others say. I show up to about 3/4 of the games along with 4 or 5 friends but we all had finals and it was on TV, so study time.

How do all the vocal online Pearl bashers help recruiting, if that is your concern? If you really follow Vols bball and you're not just jumping off a different bandwagon now that UT is a tourney team, you'd know that we are looking great. We lost to some good teams in the NCAA's. We beat some too. That is how it goes. Even the super talented teams (Duke, UNC) go thru that. Under Pearl, we've done a lot more upsetting than being upset. Who'd have thought UT would ever be #1 in Bball? Not me. To hit #1 late in the year is huge. You don't do that with bad coaches or players who haven't improved since HS. Most of your anti-Pearl arguments are so ridiculous they remind me of politics. Get over the Pearl-hate and support the Vols. You don't win them all, but we've got a good shot of making the NCAA's, and from there who knows. That's just college bball. You guys act like Bulls fans in the 90's.

BYU is always in the top 10 in attendance. I bet there are myriads of programs dying to be like the Cougars.

it's not the only thing we've done. there are A MYRIAD of other programs that are dying to be like the Vols, for sure. BYU? Who even keeps up with BYU stats? Spoken like a true fan of some other team than the Vols.

Tennessee has lost to a lower seeded team in three of Pearl's four NCAA Tournament appearances.

Hat, don't let facts get in the way of this discussion. If you offer any suggestion that we could be better, you are way off base.

get ready boys, he can knock em' down using his blackberry quicker than you can set em up with a Dell PC. And furthermore, he's right 99.9% of the time.

True. I keep forgetting there's a state statute mandating the return of Jerry Green is Pearl is no longer the coach.

I'm going to suggest that your logic, among quite a few other things, is flawed.

You're basically saying those who simply disagree and suggest an alternative should not be "trusted".

Have you ever disagreed with someone in a higher position than you? I suppose that you would also then consider your ideas distrustful.

Teams lose to lower seeds, especially when they are high seeds. Who doesn't that happen to?
Let's see, #1 Ohio state- we lost by 1
#3 Louisville killed us
OK state beat us by 2
then Wichita State, the only TRUE upset
But that was the same bracket that 11 seed G Mason came out of by beating UNC. It is called the NCAA's. Over that same 4 years, Duke has been upset in the NCAA's 4 times. Does that make Coach K a bad coach, or is it time for more of your selective reasoning?

I'm not saying that at all. I don't trust THE LOGIC of someone who posts illogical statements. Would you? How do you get here^ from what I posted?
