You made your statement in response to someone expressing how they thought Hopson is not an NBA player and listed reasons why. This was something you obviously disagreed with.

Based on what I've seen thus far, the poster's opinion seems like a rational assessment.

Even if I disagreed with a point that someone makes, it doesn't mean I go as far as not trusting it. There is fine line between the two.

But that was the same bracket that 11 seed G Mason came out of by beating UNC. It is called the NCAA's. Over that same 4 years, Duke has been upset in the NCAA's 4 times. Does that make Coach K a bad coach, or is it time for more of your selective reasoning?

Pretty sure K has a plethora of Final Fours and a trio of National Titles to speak to his quality as a tournament coach. Then again, I can see how 3 SEC East "championships" and a poll ranking in February would override those middling accomplishments.

Actually, Duke is a great comparison for Pearl's Vols. When they were 2 seeds, they also lost to a 3 and a 7, just like us. They were also a 1 seed and lost to a 4 and then a 6 seed, losing to 11, while we were a 9 and lost to an 8 and as a 5 barely lost to a 1 seed. We have both been to 2 Sweet 16's over the last 4 years as well. But us Vols fans don't want Coach K either because we can get somebody better!! Right?!?! HAHAHAHAHA

I think I'll mark this post and just quote it every time I want to represent the Pearlophiles' brilliance. If it just mentioned SEC East "championships" and "who ya gunna git?" it would be a perfect example of the brilliance employed by The Sycophants Of Tanning Bed.

Pearl is winning as much at UT with lesser players than Coach K has at Duke. Maybe Pearl is pretty good! Maybe our system makes up for our lack of NBA material. FACT is, since Pearl's been at UT he's done as well as Coach K in the tourney. That isn't the sign of a bad coach to me. Read it how you will. I know some of you prefer those 'out there' conclusions.

This is a ridiculous response. Comparing the tournament accomplishments of Coach K to Pearl makes you look ludicrous.

It is odd to me that no one likes Coach Pearl on Volnation. I don't get it. Every basketball posts gets hijacked by the haters on here and it ruins it for me. The discrepancy between Kiffin's love and Pearl's disappointment just makes no sense at all, especially considering the records of those involved. Don't get me wrong, I love CLK, and I'm all Vol, but 7-5 isn't what I'd ever hope for. The Basketball Vols, on the other hand, have exceeded every expectation! I never thought UT ball would be relevant. It never had been, in my lifetime. I was surprised as recently as the Harris signing. Laugh off SEC E Championships and #1 rankings and Sweet 16's all you want, it just helps show the ultra-oblivious how bitter you really are. Anyone who ever loved UT basketball is as proud as they can be of Pearl's accomplishments. Go Vols! I'm out.

Potential is a horrible word. Look at each year's NBA draft. Yeah, they love to draft 'talent' but how many of the 'talents' (Kwame Brown, Deshaun Stephenson, Sebastian Telfair, etc et al) turn into Dwight Howard or KG or Jermaine O'Neal?

Hopson is an NBA player and i'd be willing to bet a substantial amount on it. How good of a pro? We will see, but he will be an NBA player.

Based on what? His defense? Has complete lack of ball handing skills? His ability to drive the lane and finish? He is an out of control athlete than cant play any D. Right now the only thing going for him is that he can shoot on weak competition.

Stephenson, when healthy, has been pretty good. The better example of that phenomenon is the drafting of guys like Robert Swift and Frederick Weis simply because they're big guys who can walk more than 5 steps without stumbling.

A lot of schools used to give you both numbers. I think the Big 10 mandated it for years. Don't know if they still do.

To answer your question, no, we will not. We are a football school that fields a pretty good basketball squad and that's how we will always be. Our attendance is actually very good in comparison to tons and tons of other major conference basketball teams, its just alot more noticeable in 20,000 seat arena. Since when does attendance = elite program anyways?

You are right---fan support and attendance at games has absolutely nothing to do with having an elite program. Most of the top basketball schools have little to no fan support or attendance when they play---perfect logic. Tell Florida about being a football school and basketball is secondary and always will be. Of course it is impossible to be good in both sports.

The USC Trojans can't sell out most of their games. Does that make them not a elite football program?
