Will we ever hear from Dooley again?

How is his buyout affected if he accepts another job? Does he still get the full buyout or would it be reduced? I never paid attention to the stipulations of this part of the contract until I realized how many people we are paying for not working.

He gets it all, job or no job.

This is Derek. I'm doing ok and will continue to stay in contact via Volnation. Thank you for your interest. For the record i'm like the best coach ever. You guys simply could not understand my incomprehensible brilliance

That sucks. I think the entire buyout concept is ridiculous. We are paying Todd Raleigh and Derek Dooley(and I think Buzz Peterson at one point) because they couldn't win more than they lost. We are paying Bruce Pearl because he lied to the NCAA repeatedly. Why Fulmer and Delmonico had buyout clauses are beyond me because there was no demand for either of them at any other program. If there is a buyout, it seems like there should be some level achievement that the coaches should be held accountable for. Guess hindsight is 20/20. Or Hammy is just an idiot was was quite frivolous with UT's money.

Don't blame the coaches on account of the buyouts. UT signed the contract and agreed to the terms. Get all you can when you can. Smart business by the coaches.

no...he will move someplace far, far away, and we shall never hear from him again.

I was thinking driving to work this morning.......one of you old-timers, the final straw for Bill Battles was some kind of fake punt that didn't work from his own end of the field. Does anyone remember that?

As big of history buff as Derek was, he went and made the exact same tactical error. Letting your punter throw the ball for 20 yards from your own 28 yard line....gheez...a desperate man.

That Fake punt was against Georgia in 1973 I was there and it cost us the game and that was the beginning of the end for battle

He would make somebody a good AD, but he wants to coach so he probably will. His name will always open doors, especially in the South. I would rather have Dooley as AD than Hart, frankly, though I doubt Dooley will leave here with many happy memories. He could have done a lot for UT, just not as HC.

Where is the accountability there. A total win/win regardless of his performance.

Bill Battle went into business and made hundreds of millions of dollars. So who know about Dooley.

dooley's a lawyer---he may try to sue UT if he doesn't get all his buyout money right away

DD will be long gone from Knoxville within a few months. Will not be coaching doesn't have the enthusiasm or ability to get kids fired up, have watched it for 3 years just isn't there.

I think he'll eventually coach a big program again. But it'd be smart to get some experience first, whether it be a smaller program or a coordinator (a lot of pride to swallow though). That and with his record he'd never get a job at a big program right now.

But I think we tend to forget that this was only his 6th year of coaching...And he jumped straight from a tiny school after only 3 years to frickin UT. Hindsight says that that wasn't a smart move and he really was in over his head, especially with the state of the program when he came in. But who could ever pass up an opportunity to coach in the SEC you grew up in and loved? I wanted him to succeed in the worst way, but he didn't. Not here at least. He probably will in the future, and I really hope he does because he sure as heck has the passion for it.

At end of game. @ 40 yd line. If we make 4th and short, we run clock out. Epic battle fail. We lose.

Argh...yeah, I remember that....

Dooley reminded me of battles in a lot of ways

They were both in over their heads. Too young. I doubt that Derek can ever win anywhere. If you can't relate to the kids, it doesn't get any easier as you age.

nope not a chance he coaches in the big leagues again..if he does coach again it will be at a small college or mid major or even be an assistant somewhere...but hes probably packing his house up right now and hitting the road soon out of K-town and never coming back!! goodbye and good riddance! thanks for nearly destroying this football program!!!
