I'm thinking of taking a camping/fishing trip up to Minnesota this summer before I move to GA. I might also try my hand at trout fishing, too. There are apparently some decent streams in northern Iowa. I've never eaten trout.

It would be nice if it was legal to hunt PETA members.![]()
Id say it has more to do with me. But thats just a guess.
He may have meant Jay.
Trout is great, best to smoke it on a grill whole.
When it's done you just peel the skin back and the meat comes right off the bone and sticks to the skin, you then just peel the meat off the skin and chase it with some good ale or iced tea if you prefer.
There is nothing much more fun that fly fishing, I've caught everything from bluegill to catfish on my old split bamboo.
One trick is this, you can roll a small streamer off the bottom of a shoal and if you catch minnows you know not to work that pool because there are no good sized trout there.
I also used to keep a 1975 Sports Afield mag that had an article in it about the eastern brook trout.
The Tennessee state record for Brook trout is 14 lbs 15 ozs if I remember correctly.
In the early part of the 20th century most streams became very polluted and add to that fact the pressure of hunting and fishing during the great depression led to the extinction of Brook trout and scarcity of lots of other game and fish specie.
Technically the Brookie isn't a trout, it is a char.
After WWII a program was started to restock brookies but the first problem that cropped up was that it took five years before they would reproduce.
Then some professor at the U of Chicago came up with some brooks that would reproduce at age two and so millions of those were released.
The problem with that strain though is they don't grow bigger than 3 lbs max and so that is what we are stuck with.
My mag article said there was a plan to capture some native Brook in northern Ontario and introduce them into Tennessee streams.
I don't know why that never happened unless it's the many milllions the TWRA spends every year raising and releasing rainbows.
Rainbow trout are not native and usually don't survive very long and don't reproduce naturally in our waters.
But then our friendly wildlife people love programs where they can spend lots of money, you may have noticed that most people who are employed by governmental agencies love spending your money.
Jay was manning the camera you yo-yo, cain't you 'member nothin', you may be coming down with them alzheimer thingies.
Well he's convinced peta he is, bet that wasn't that hard of a snow job.

It is here, we have a year round open season on pest critters.

I'm a regular shutter fly... Being a farm boy, I've worn my share of Pointers overalls.
Another tip on the trout. I think the smaller fish are better eatin. The meat on larger trout turns orange and the taste is much stronger. I like a white fish flavor the best. As stated earlier, walleye/sauger are the best. Followed closely by crappie. Need any tips shoot me a PM anytime. You just have to swear to not divulge any trade secrets that I tell you....

Thanks for the information. I'll save it and definitely take the advice. Now, what's the picture supposed to mean?

Hard to beat Libertys after their washed a few times.
It could imply that you are a country bumpkin who has zero understanding of politics and are completely out of your element to even be posting on this board but who am I to say?
While I may be out of my element on this political forum, I feel that if some others and I weren't here, then this place would be a ultra-conservative Republican circlejerk for the most part.
