Wimbledon: It doesn't get any better

i'm not about to get optimistic about his chances, but with Davydenko losing early AGAIN yesterday, Roddick's chances improved greatly. It went from .03% chance to around .06% according to my odds.

One of the most promising men's up and comers is giving Nadal waaaaay more than he wants this early in the tourney...

Maria looks absolutely awful right now and is in serious danger of losing in straight sets. If she wants to be one of the alltime best, she needs to learn how to play when her A game isn't on.

that has to be a pretty large list to include her.

by no means does it include her yet. I'm just saying if she ever wants to get in that category, she has to learn how to win when her "A game" isn't on. As we discussed during the French, power is her game, but she was missing everything today, why not go up to the net and try to create something? She hardly even tried. It looked over during the first set, I was honestly surprised Sharapova held on as long as she did in the second.

double your money, double your fun vercin

DOWN GOES MARIA.

I know. Yesterday I thought I was going to lose before the first weekend, but instead I win. Nice. He's likely to win the money back from me the Euro Cup final, though. He took Germany to win three games in a row, which I thought unlikely, but now he's 2/3 of the way there. And now that it's down to one game, I sure don't feel great about Spain.

Didn't expect Maria to have two crappy tourneys in a row. I figured she was due for a good showing. Oh well.

my thoughts. easy on the eyes but if she's gone it's nice to not have to listen to her play.

I'm not one bit surprised, but Andy Roddick is out of a major very early yet again.

Who's coaching Roddick these days? Jimmy Connors didn't seem to help out all that much.

His brother Jon.

Does anyone believe that Connors resigned "to spend more time with his family"?

I personally believe Roddick and Connors both knew nothing was working out so they just gave up. I don't see any US male on the horizon that might get a major anytime soon. Donald Young is about the best hope and he's probably 3 years away minimum at even getting recognized when he goes out in public.

Roddick going to that less risky, but loopy forehand has neutered his game. He runs around the backhand now and just loops back a beach ball, where he used to inside out a bb.

Now his return game still sucks, his crap backhand is better but not a weapon, he can't play at net and his forehand is now like Nalbandian. Aside from his serve, he has nothing to beat people with any more. So he'll break little and his rough service games will see him lose more than 50% of his 2nd serve points and lose his arse.

I just don't get it. His forehand and serve made him a beast. Maybe it wasn't % tennis, but it made him one of the best. Now, if he doesn't serve out of a tree every day, he's likely to lose.

I think people figured out how to take his forehand away from him and make him vulnerable. I sort of understand how Connors tried to prepare him, but I would have made sure and kept the forehand as an absolute weapon. It's gone now as are any hopes he has at winning another major.

In the presser, Roddick actually said he could train less and become lazy and still probably be a top ten tennis player but he doesn't want that, he wants another major. I thought it was a bit cocky, but who am I to judge. There's a reason I never made it as far as him.

dude today didn't take away the forehand. Roddic ran around the backhand all night, just to hit loopy crap back to dude's backhand. Wimbledon is about pressure and continually limiting the opponent's time. Roddick could do that with the big hammer, but the loop just doesn't work. I don't think I've seen a baseline forehand winner from him since JC took over.

like i said, now the forehand is gone. He doesn't have the power with it he used to. Not sure if it was from training so much on the other aspects or what, but the power he once had with it is a thing of the past.

you really think the pop's gone? Why has the serve retained the heat?

I think he still has the racket speed, but has teetered toward this more risk averse game, but it has had an awful result. It's like Mickelson trying to be who he isn't. Just ain't what got him to the dance.

he may have the speed, but between his slight injuries and everything that is wrong between his ears, the forehand power game from Roddick is gone.
