Windy's football discussion thread.

I think if it gets started they'll finish. I feel good that it'll start but it's still over a month off and a lot can happen between now and then. Either way.

I'm not really concerned about the colder weather, it seemed to thrive in the summer and here in Florida. Only thing is when it starts getting colder and the cold and flu starts hitting, how much of those are going to be called covid? IDK. It's gonna be interesting.

I still don’t think it happens. I can see the SEC and ACC going all out to try and make this happen but there will just be too many outbreaks

I saw the poll in the FF and there were a bunch that voted it wouldn't get played at all, that's why I was asking.

I've been back and forth on my thoughts. I thought for a while it was probably a good idea to err on the side of caution and just cancel it, but after seeing these guys personally that tested positive and never had any symptoms, and one that had it but wasn't all that bad, I just don't know.

What I think doesn't matter anyway, so I just hope nothing serious comes from it if everything goes as planned.

Anyone still thinking college football doesn't get played?

There for a while I thought for sure it was gonna get cancelled, but I'm beginning to feel pretty sure it is going to happen.

If a team cannot play because of an “outbreak” like MLB, wtf they going to do? Extend to January I guess. It feels like an exhibition at this point.

So are you saying you don't think we get college football? I'm not following.

Jax I apologize. I now see that I'm the one not asking the right question.

I think there will be some games and some will be cancelled. Teams will likely not play the same number of games. There is no championship. So, it’s an exhibition basically.

See, it really was me. Not joking, I honestly didn't get this from the other post but see it now.

I would have agreed a couple of weeks ago, but I don't right now. I hope you're wrong, but it's definitely possible you're not. We'll see.

Students will come to campus, party like it's 1999, contract and spread covid-19, spawning multiple quarantines. Still, UT will try to continue for those not infected. The 25% allowed in the stadium for the home opener will include a faction of students. They will not abide by the rules. They will mass near the field, twirl their masks like rally rags, beckon players to jump into their midst, and possibly dash out onto the field. It will prove a nationally televised embarrassment to UT. Some who attend will test positive for covid-19. The no win scenario will live like a cantelope-sized boil on Dr. Pimplepopper.

Students will not be allotted tickets to the next home game. This will cause consternation among students, alumni, and fans. Sportscasters will opine about the lack of students ad infinitum. Tennessee's embarrassment will continue.

The Chancellor will publicly announce a fresh lottery for the third home game. She will assure all that the students will abide by the rules or be removed. This group of students will "behave" until the game is well underway. They will then mass near the field, twirl their masks like rally rags, and beckon players to jump into their midst. Sportscasters will chew on Tennessee's conundrum & embarrassment, opine that students will be students, one or two may even express doubts as to covid-19's virility and the threat it poses. Hopefully, that idiocy will grab public attention, providing some cover for Tennessee's embarrassment over the student attendance/behavior fiasco.

Then, some talking heads will report on the Volunteers' overall health, quality of play, team unity, and fierce pursuit of victory through to the final second, whether they're ahead or behind. The focus will be on Vols football, where it belongs.

Then again, there is the possibility that students will return to campus, party like it's 1999, fueling exponential growth in the rates of infection. These covid carriers will attend classes with student athletes. Covid-19 will roar through the ranks of the Vols. Tennessee will not be able to field a team and have to forfeit their first three games while the PTBs debate the fate of Tennessee football 2020...

goes for the NFL as well imo

The NFL is singular business, basically, that has more freedom and flexibility with scheduling their employees. The risk of cancellations is the same, but I believe they can do a better job rescheduling those games and extending the season to make them up. Now, if players opt out in large quantities, then the house of cards comes down.
