Father of UGA's Smart dies after Sugar Bowl fall

Georgia coach Kirby Smart's father, Sonny, died Saturday morning after suffering complications from hip surgery he underwent following a fall in New Orleans before the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Tennessee could be in danger of losing a key assistant coach and it would be bad news for the Vols​


If Banks departs for Miami or Clemson (or another job), there's no obvious replacement for Josh Heupel to hire. And while I'm sure some fans would view replacing Banks as an opportunity for Tennessee's defense to improve, there's no guarantee that would be the case (anyone remember when Butch Jones replaced John Jancek with Bob Shoop after the 2015 season...it's a move that was popular with fans but ended up being a total disaster).

The old saying "if it's not broke, don't fix it" certainly applies here.

Tennessee needs to make sure they keep Banks this offseason. The last thing the program needs right now is to take a gamble on a new defensive coordinator.

I keep hearing people say we didn’t adjust…..um , yes we did, it just didn’t work. So …..what defense were we in when we couldn’t stop the wheel route? That’s both before and after the adjustment…..and what adjustments should have been made that would have worked? Keep in mind that the Back is significantly faster than the ILB, and OLB, the receivers are also big and fast and have burned us deep already so no safety help and squeezing the D end is donating them a 4-7 yard gain every play.

I think its a case of 3-4 guys not gonna play much (and squirrel dinged up all to hayul) and errbody jumped to the conclusion pope had lost the wr room. I dont know. Truth is a few of em might not be very good. Hell, leacocks not been good enough in 2 yrs to get more than about a dozen snaps.

You'd think hyatt or ced would have shown up popes coaching weakness...might not be that at all.

Basketball booster has been saying for a while that there was a cancer, doesn’t know who, but some were told to hit the road and a couple went with. Mathews is the only one we made an effort to keep.
But again that’s still outside information
